This book is beautiful. This is a new favourite of mine and I honestly love it as much as I love Spirited Away. I would LOVE for this to become a movie, it needs to be. I need to see the visuals of the beautiful world building that entails this story. I need to see the journey Mina and her found family travel. Mina being brave and strong for her family in the human world. It was such a beautiful story. The twists with Shin, Dai, Mask, Miki and even the emperor. It’s things I couldn’t have even predicted or expected to happen and they all were wholesome. The ending had me in fear of what could happen, maybe it leaving on a sad finish. Though it did, it was bittersweet. I really loved this book and I can’t wait to read another from this author

This was a good read! I really loved Kiki who I saw as practically Shiori’s conscience, she’s sassy, she’s bossy and shes also smart! The relationship she and Shiori have as bestfriends I thought was adorable! I also liked seeing Shiori slowly grow into less of a princess but more of a brave warrior while on her journey to break the curse, she may not be a great fighter but she had it in her heart to protect those she loved and cared for no matter the cost. Her relationship with Takkan I thought was really so sweet, he was like a real Prince Charming and I was really rooting for them both and hoping he would know who she really was the whole time! And finding out who the real enemy was quite a surprise but it was I will say a little confusing!
I do think that the book could have been a bit shorter, and I wish we kind of had more of a connection with her brothers and her step mother, as I didn’t feel much emotional attachment to any of them. Takkan I felt more of an attachment to! I was also confused because I thought Seryu would have been more in the story but he wasn’t really and I also initially thought he was the love interest, I feel like he still could be for the second book but I don’t know, maybe there will be a choice to make when I do decide to read the next one! And as much as I loved Shiori, girl did she make me mad, LISTEN TO KIKI IN FUTURE! But then again how would she have grown if she didn’t fall into these traps!

I had been waiting to read this for a while, and I did not expect this book to be political! It was in fact very political, and I felt like it correlated a lot with British parliament today and how classism, sexism and discrimination exists even in the real world and bringing that into a fantasy realm which involved dragons! I thought it was really really cool the idea the Author had about the different dragon languages and the different types of dragons as well, I do wish there could be a huge codex of some sort I’d be really intrigued to read that! The book was popping off start to finish, never a moment was boring, there was always something interesting or crazy going on and moments where I would verbally question “wtf?”

- Gothic
- Horror/Thriller
- Paranormal
- Murder Mystery
This book is my first introduction to horror/thriller, it’s a gothic paranormal horror and wow, it was a wild ride. Though it took a bit of time for the eeriness to kick off, I was still gripped from the beginning, learning about Stella the main character and her past and learning about Annie and also her sister Madeleine. When the eeriness began I questioned if the ghost was bad, and then when the plot twists began and it turned sort of into a murder mystery I was stuck to the book like glue, trying to figure out who the murderer was? I was attempting to guess before it was actually revealed and I was wrong on every account, the ending was brilliant! The world building in this book was wonderful! The writing I also found to be quite poetic at times which I really enjoyed!
I really bonded well with Stella and especially Annie and sometimes Madeleine, I think they both are very special characters. I felt sad for them constantly being gaslit and not believed, and when Mr Sheers finally believed them as well as Hector, I was so happy! I almost thought at one point that maybe Stella would have had a romantic connection with Sheers, I felt she deserved that at least after all the trauma she had been through. But I’m really happy how the book had ended, though I kind of wished Stella got to speak to her late fiancé one last time, the flashbacks to their ending had made me quite emotional. One funny thing I’ll add is that I had annotated that “Mr sheers is one deluded dumbass” but I actually came to adore him in the end!
My only minor negative would be that it took some time for the eeriness to kick in but it’s not enough to let this book down at all. All in all a fantastic read!
If you want to have an introduction to horror/thriller I’d definitely recommend this book! I’m looking forward to adding more to my tbr and reading them! I will prewarn that it does have some involvement of death surrounding children, so please be careful reading this! But I would say the ending was bittersweet. Peace at last for all those involved

This was a super quick read and I enjoyed it, though I do wish it were a bit longer and the ending was quite abrupt! I really liked Aidan and Lily is super cute, especially the character art! Hopefully in book 2 there will be more spice and more jealous, territorial Aidan! I actually found it really funny when it came to his job in the demon realm, I expected the torture devices to be something really messed up and gory until he says he sees a feather, balloons and a kazoo! But what would the balloons would have done to torture the guy I wonder? I also found it quite funny that while he’s “torturing” him he’s like having a bro chat with this human, talking about Lily and how he should approach her, that made me laugh! I also thought it was cute that Aidan helped her with cleaning her apartment, Ergh
