Love, betrayal, fight for power
There were gaps in this story, but it is the second of the series so that is somewhat expected. The narrator does a great job of pacing and moving the story along.
It felt like the end was rushed with many loose ends not even explained as characters who were there all of a sudden where whisked away and almost forgotten about.
Most of the characters motives have been revealed, but I am still second guessing Caldon’s motives. Are they true or is there something hidden.

3.5 rounded up.
This series really drew me in. And in part it was due to a really good audio narration
A few things that made me knock it down. Some mid level characters just disappeared with barely a mention.
The “voice” used for Kiva’s sister was switched over to Cresta and that was weird especially later in this story.
Caldon was by far my favorite character in this series

Adorable concept of magic vegetables that walk, talk, and garden
This story is about overcoming and seeing the good in change

I did not like the audio narrator, and I don't know how much that affects how I feel about the book.
There were threads introduced that went no where, which was annoying.
The book, while written to be part of a series could be read as a standalone
