I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I had an audible copy read by Rachel McAdams sitting in my library for a while and finally gave it a listen.

Who doesn't love an audio book narrated in an Irish accent?

2 sisters both in careers being held back by misogynistic hierarchy. But not letting it stop them from success. I look forward to continuing this series

What a great book to read going into Halloween.

This novella is written in short chapters by several authors told in the voices of 2 main characters, Beatrix and James. There is plenty of suspense, horror and a little bit of romance. Each chapter is an "episode" The way it was written, you could see it set up as episodes in a TV series.
For the most part, the blending of the story between different authors was really well done. In fact, several times I had to go back to see which author was writing the current episode. Not clunky at all, except for one chapter-- the heavy romance one seemed somewhat out of line with the rest of the story. I found one timeline discrepancy, that I feel impacted the story, but only mildly.

This book follows 2 story lines, one in the present, the other in the 1800's.

In the present, Caroline is in London, alone, on what was to be an anniversary trip with her husband. In the span of a few days, she find a mysterious vial and sets out to discover it's origins. Along the way, she does some soul searching and learns about who she is and what direction she wants her life to lead.

The past story is about Nella, who runs an hidden apothecary for women. The end result of some of her potions result in the death of men. The more we learn about Nella, we uncover her reasons for hiding her shop and the motivations behind the potions she creates.

This page-turner deftly weaves back and forth from past to present, keeping the reader invested in the lives of the main characters I really enjoyed the parallel connections that weave through both their lives and how they each react to them, in response to the culture of the time period they are living in.

Oh man. What a great tie-in to Melissa Albert's Hazel Wood series.
Set in the Hinterland, this book is a series of "fairy" tales that give backstory to several of the characters in the main series. A collection of short stories, each more sinister or horrific than the next, it can be read as a stand-alone. Perfect for those who do not need, nor want a happy tidy ending to their tales.

This was a few hours of pure fun.

This was a fun, humorous read with lots of action, suspense and puns.
