I too would love to be whisked away to Scotland by a pair of Scottish Dragon Shifters, where do I sign up?

As someone who read this book when she was a child being able to read the graphic novel as an adult is so refreshing! This graphic novel is so beautiful, the artwork is stunning and everything flows together well. I have always loved this story growing up and I think it tells a wonderful tale about the circle of life. As I kid I felt like I would always be upset about Winnie’s decision but now as an adult I makes more sense.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC! This was a wonderful experience!

I was really excited for this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I know it’s supposed to be a Mulan retelling but I felt like I was just watching the movie scene by scene…unfortunately that wasn’t working for me.

This story just keeps getting better and better!! I loved seeing Xie Lian interact with new characters and we are starting to get some more back story here! I am very interested to learn what has happened in the past 800 years and how Hua Cheng has possibly shown up in Xie Lian’s past. Also every one of these just keeps breaking my heart with how everyone treats Xie Lian when he seems like the nicest person ever, like why are y'all so mean him?! And you can see how pieces of his past have affected him yet he tries to shield others from being hurt? Love. Excited to read the next one!

Here’s the thing I absolutely loved the premise of this book, but it’s just so short that I never really fell in love with it. I think if this book got fleshed out and we had more back story on Dorian and the 3 others on the ship it would be a 5 star read for me! I mostly just felt very disconnected because of how short it was. The story though itself is super fun and mysterious! It very much gives me black mirror vibes and since it’s short enough to be a black mirror episode it’s perfect for that.

This book was such a nice and refreshing read!! I will be thinking about Alba and Eridanys for the rest of my life. Alba was such a fun character to read about and I loved seeing how the love for his mother and wanting to provide for her drove him onto this adventure of finding where she went which is how we end up in Moon Harbor. I loved the scenery and the details of each location we landed, the author painted the most beautiful pictures of the landscapes and I felt like I was right there with Alba in this town. Next we meet Eridanys and let me tell you! This man (merrow)?! Amazing! I too would’ve fallen for him immediately. Watching these two progress in their relationship was so so sweet and they’re probably one of my top couples now. Not to mention the spicy scenes in this?? The mouth on Eridanys had me blushing! I also really enjoyed the mystery we have going in this book, I could definitely pick up on what was potentially happening behind the scenes but I was still definitely shocked at parts I didn’t expect!

Overall this was a lovely read and I definitely plan to read more by this author. I think my one complaint/keeping this from a 5 star for me was the syntax as at times I’d get lost in a sentence and need to read it many times to figure out what was happening/being said.

I want to start this off by saying take whatever expectations you have of this book and throw it away. Was this book well written? Not by a long shot, but did it have me cracking up almost every chapter? Yes! When I first started this book I was really thrown off guard by using modern slang terms of “bestie” and “apocalyptic core”. I almost DNF’d for that reason because I’m not someone who typically likes that in books. However for some reason I was intrigued and just kept going because even though it was definitely cringey at times I was honestly having a great time reading it. I think a lot of that enjoyment came from realizing that this book is just not taking itself too seriously and felt like watching reality TV where it’s not great but you’re honestly loving every episode? Overall I enjoyed the characters and the twist on Greek mythology. I could definitely pick out the twists and what was going on with the plot as it was pretty predictable. I did dock this stars because of the writing, the author likes to say something that should be read sarcastically but then would put the like actual meaning or what’s happening in parentheses next to it which every now and then was funny but it was happening almost every page which was just too much. At the end this was a fun read in between other series, if you want a laugh pick this up but seriously just lower all expectations because it’s not what it seems. And I will definitely be picking up the next book to read.

This was a super quick fun read! I love the idea of a barista matchmaker and seeing these two instantly hit it off was fun! Not much plot here, mostly spice, but it’s perfect for a fun read when you’ve got an hour or two to kill.

I absolutely adored everything about this book and cannot wait to continue this series! I mean the slow burn here is slow burning so well and this book had me giggling and kicking my feet 95% of the time.
