This book was just not for me. The pacing, the writing, everything just felt off. Usually the characters make up for this but honestly I just did not like any of them.

This book was a 6/5 ⭐️ read for me! I mean even from the very first paragraph I was hooked.
In this book we follow Vis, an orphan who is trying to escape from ever ceding Will in the Hierarchy. Who knew this would be quite the journey for him as in his attempt to not cede Will he is adopted by a man who needs his help by finding out what happened to his brother at the Catenan Academy. And let me tell you this academy is hiding secrets galore!
I loved everything about this book, Vis caught my attention from the first page, he is extremely attentive to the world and people around him and I loved that we got to see him process in real time how to approach all of these situations. This book showed me that I would’ve been dead in the first few pages because my social anxiety could never. There was also soo much mystery surrounding the academy and what is truly going on there. This book definitely kept me on my toes because I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone but Vis and even when he would start trusting someone I just kept thinking the whole time, this person is going to switch on you. The idea of the academy itself was really unique to me and how they mirror the outside hierarchical pyramids and that the social dynamics where “if you’re in class 5 you only sit and talk to class 5”. Vis of course did not care about this and is breaking all the rules. But I’m glad he did, it was exciting seeing him make actual friends and not just using people like it seemed everyone around him did, he truly trusted his friends by the end.
The ending of this book was wild, I knew pieces and parts of it would be taking place as you can see the foreshadowing as to what is taking place but Vis missed all of it lol. The ending still very much shocked me because we finally get to see what is kinda going on that academy. It of course leaves you with thousands of questions as well and I will be patiently waiting for the second book because I can’t get enough of this story!

This book was so cute! I listened to the audiobook version of this and honestly the narrators really made this such a wonderful read! Overall I really enjoyed Evelyn and Beckett’s relationship and seeing how it progressed. I enjoyed how natural and honestly realistic this relationship felt and there was no third act breakup more of just some misunderstanding/miscommunication but not to some degree that seemed unbelievable. Beckett’s feelings of not wanting to hold Evelyn back made so much sense to me and I loved that in the end he worked through it.

I just finished watching the anime for this show (LOVED) so starting the manga now! Honestly love the art style in this. I will say you can definitely tell this was meant to be read scrolling vertically so some of the art panels get a bit choppy and you lose the whole picture but still overall very excited to read this series!

“She wants to live in the woods, fulfilling her cottagecore, swamp witch type dreams.”
Honestly me too Darcy, me too. This book was a fun, quick read! I really enjoyed it overall would loveeee to read some more cryptid romance books. 😈 I will say definitely check your trigger warnings for this one but overall this book was lighthearted and I loved seeing how the relationship with Zu and Darcy progressed. And Frankie and Lexi are seriously the best best friends because honestly they did not bat an eye at their friend being in love with a goatman, truly the best friends we could ask for here. If you’re looking for a sweet and fun read this one is definitely it!
Thank you to the author for the eARC!

This book is a 6/5 stars for me! I absolutely adored the first book and was so sad at the ending in The God and the Gumiho, however, as soon as I knew their would be a second book I had so much hope that this one would heal the heartbreak the first one caused.
Couple of things heading into this book, I was worried that the story would feel repetitive and that I wouldn't love the new "Hani" as much. However I was blown out of the water by this book! This time around we are with Seokga and Kisa on the SRC Flatliner solving yet another murder mystery (who knew I could love a good cozy murder mystery two times in a row) in the underworld this time and unfortunately Kisa is already dead. I won't lie knowing this I was already nervous that this book would make me cry more than the first and honestly it did but not for the reasons you're thinking. It was heartbreaking to see Seogka go through the feelings of being alone and how he compared Kisa to Hani and how he just wanted her back in any form. To me this book was Seogka's book and his character gains so much depth in this book and we really watch him grow into who he is/wants to be. There are also some great friendships in this book and I loved the overarching mystery we had going. I was able to put together things somewhat quickly closer to the 75% mark but with how it's written I was still left second guessing my self.
Overall, I loved everything about this book. The pacing and the way it's set up is so perfect. The friendships we see Kisa gain and the witty banter in this had me laughing out loud. This is a book I will be coming back to over and over again and will have my shelf for so many years to come.

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this eARC!
This was SUCH a cute story! This is the perfect slice of life manga to lose a couple hours to. The overall story was extremely well written and the art style is beautiful. I loved seeing the relationship between Luka and Ume. I really wish though we would have gotten more scenes of Luka and Sakura as you could see there was a possible relationship there but it never really developed. The banter between characters was witty and fun and Luka is a very charming character. Hope to see more from these characters!

I want to start with saying that this book definitely has potential! However, I did DNF around 11% as the writing style was really pulling me out the story. From what I had read we were switching between two characters: Melody and Blair which I did enjoy as I love a good multi-pov story. What I struggled with was Melody's chapters were in first person while Blair's chapters switched over to third person which caught me off guard every time we made the switch. Pacing of the story was another spot where I struggled, we would jump from scene to scene with no mention of how we got there and instead of feeling like I was in the story with these characters I felt like I was just having them retell me the story because of the big jumps between scenes. I will say overall I was enjoying the characters and the story! I love a good badass FMC and I felt like both Melody and Blair would be giving those vibes later in the story.
