Another very interesting set up, themes I enjoy and want, but the execution was very heavy handed. Maybe for YA it makes sense to have characters directly explaining the concept and contours of privilege on page to ensure no subtle point goes missed but those portions seemed very much, “yes obviously, and?” to me.
Interesting, informative, but surface level. I felt a little weird about how much the subjects being interviewed didn’t really seem like they had informed consent re: featuring their lives in this book, particularly since so many were children.
This is one I initially wasn’t sure how I felt about it but I definitely continue to think about the story, and generally fondly. I just wish the 3rd act breakup wasn’t the way it was.
Yellowjackets with paranormal elements where everyone is gay. Very spooky, enjoyable. Nice ending.
A bit of a slog. Very interesting set up with the demon power situation but a bunch of human motivation elements just did not make sense to me.
Basically exactly what I want from this series. Fewer spice scenes and starting later in the book than the first. Probably could have been shorter. I like the narration team.
Pacing issues and some confusion about what genre it wants to be in, but overall I really liked the set up and characters. for a book with this many flashbacks to magic school, though, I thought I’d know more about how the magic works.
Bumped up my rating a bit just based on enjoyment, even though in a lot of ways this is a fairly typical romantasy. It did have some unique characteristics, though.
