I think this was a great story about grief and losing a parent, I really liked how Norwegian fairytales were used to tell us stories about Eline and her mother, but the transitions from our storyline to the fairytales felt a bit off. I also thought Eline was incredibly selfish and childish, I tried to understand her because I've also lost a parent, but her behavior was just not it. However, the author absolutely nailed the magical, rich imagery of apparitions, meteorites, and narwhals. While I disliked more than I liked, this was still a super enjoyable book.

Thank you to Orbit Books for sending me a copy of this book!

This was honestly just okay for me. While I adored the fantastical New Orleans aspect interwoven with the folklore and magical elements, I'm not a big fan of magical realism. This confused me and was a bit slow in the beginning. I LOVED Peaches, Brendy, and Perry and their dynamic, I loved the music and family aspects, but I wouldn't give this more than 3.5 to 3.75 stars.

I absolutely adore Olivia's style, she does not miss! I loved coming back to Sip & Spin and having another mystery with our cast of characters. This one was super interesting and I had a lot of fun trying to solve it with them.

I've fallen in love with Ellie's cozies! This gave superb fall/spooky season vibes and this would be the perfect mystery to curl up with on a crisp day. The mystery was so fun as well and I was actually surprised about how it ended.

This was surprised good. Most YA books don't really pull me in but this ended up being better than I thought. It was super eerie and unsettling, something about corn mazes just freak me out. But I thought this was a good book, perfect for spooky season.

This is easily one of the best middle grades that I've read, it's a 4.5 ⭐ for me! I loved Ella, I loved her connection with her family, I loved the magic school aspect, I loved how it tackles real world problems like prejudice and microagressions, and I love the adventure in the last half of the book. The one thing keeping this from being a 5 star, is that the first half of this book is moving at a snails pace.

Listen, I understand Lorna has had major loss in her life but she had such a negative outlook on everything that I actually couldn't stand her character. Her thing with Tristan felt meh. The storyline was fine. To be transparent, I had to DNF at 60%. Ultimately, I was left incredibly disappointed.
