Ummmm, badass bi bitch energy got me like
This wasn't bad by any means, but definitely no Mythos by Stephen Fry. But it's true Gaiman had less to work with and also I just don't find Norse as interesting as Greek. Still a fun read.

2025 Re-read
I think I enjoyed this more the second time than I did the first. Still not a perfect book by any means, but lots of cool new plot points came up in this one and character development was nice.

This wasn't as epic as the first and it does fall a little into the middle book slump, but it still lives in that sweet spot of scifi that I have always loved. Lots of found family, a mixture of Battlestar Galactica and Mass Effect in terms of the lore.
There were some interesting character bits in this, which is why I still enjoyed this one even though it was a bit slower than the first book and I think only BSG fans can really enjoy the sequences of jump-prep-jump while out running enemies because it's kind of really boring when you think about it but being a BSG fan, totally used to it and enjoyed it anyway lol.

This was vaguely entertaining enough to keep going, but in the end it was really boring. The characters weren't interesting, especially Hawthorne who literally has no redeeming qualities. It felt like in the end it was just made for Horowitz to like him in some capacity even though was never a reason to. Making your main detective a homophobe, bringing it up multiple times in the book and then never having any sort of character development for him makes no sense.
I think it also would've been fine if the writer wasn't actually the author; there was nothing added to the story about being able to talk about your own works in there aside to brag about them and to name drop Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson too many damn times.
The side characters were hardly memorable, either, so when you do find out who the killer is, you really don't give a crap about their motivations.
The audiobook narrator was good, though, so I guess that made it palatable enough to finish. The Final Tintin Counter: 8

This was the first "horror" books I think I've read that really blew me away. Whenever I think of horror I think of Stephen King, but I didn't realize that there was better stuff out there and after reading Wilder Girls and Fuse I decided to start looking more into what people were shelving as horror and when I read this I was SO GLAD.
Such good stuff in this. Loved the characters and the bonds these sisters had and even though things are kind of spelled out for you, you think you might have misread it or something so when it does turn out that way you're like "WHAT?" I really did love this.

This was surprisingly really good. I thought it might be obnoxious from the blurb, but the writing was way better than expected and the characters were well thought out and interesting. Of course the MC could get annoying at times but he wasn't perfect as no one is, so it was actually expected from a teenager. I really enjoyed how things turned out in the end as well, even if it was fairly predictable. I am fine with predictability as long as it's executed well and the characters are diverse and interesting.
This was such a lovely, ethereal tale about finding your tribe and yourself but also putting yourself first too. It was really beautifully written and just hits you deep and the audiobook narration really makes this feel like you're there. Just love it!
This was so fun! Despite how unbelievable a lot of it is, it's still told in a way that feels believable. I liked most of the characters and the back story and the way things flowed to and fro. Just a well-made, well-polished romp that I couldn't put down all day.
This was really interesting. I'm a little confused as to why everyone says there are a ton of twists in this book, because I didn't find them all that surprising. Maybe I had kind of figured it out, but it didn't feel all that "twisty" to me, just a bit of a reveal.
Some of the characters I didn't care much for, even toward the end. I don't think I was blown away by this like other people were because if I'm honest, I'm not totally sure I want to keep reading. It wasn't bad, obviously, but I don't feel so close to the characters that I'm dying to know how their stories continue. It feels a bit like The Will of the Many to me--while I find the world interesting, I don't have a huge connection to the characters. Though the characters in this are far more interesting than they were in Islington's work (and they aren't huge Mary Sues like his were).

This was pretty slow for me. I started and stopped it about three times, I think? I finally plowed through the latter 80% all at once, but there were still some points I kind of checked out at. It was interesting enough, I guess, but I'm not blown away by either the characters or the setting so far and I'm not really sure why there are two more books or what they would be about because that seemed to be a pretty well wrapped up story.
I'm trying to not disparage this story, but so far it's just a kind of meh for me.
