I just didn't care for the writing in this.
I understand what this novel is trying to do, but I feel like the heavy-handedness of it is so overwhelming that it's just not interesting to read. I was hoping for better ways to learn about the world and the dragon lore, but it feels like we're just one of the students reading a text book on the matter rather than finding out organically.
I started tuning it out. It just wasn't interesting enough to hold my attention.
I read half of this and I don't think finishing it is going to get me any more interested. While the whimsical nature feels nice, everything just seems stretched thin to the point where it's not connected enough to make me care.
I am not totally sure how far I got into this, but something about the language and the immaturity of the main character just didn't sit well with me. Seems like they are trying to cover some intense concepts, but with it being YA (New Adult), it just doesn't feel well executed.
Is this really pitched as an adult book? It's just a bunch of whiny, asshole teenagers who treat people like shit. I'm not terribly surprised I didn't like this because most books with fae in them just aren't appealing to read. The horrible, cruel fae just isn't something I find fun to read about, especially when they are meant to be romances.
The main character is mostly insufferable which makes it pretty hard to give a shit about what he's dealing with.

The idea for this was interesting, but the execution just wasn't there. Also the author did the narration for the audiobook and was not really a great narrator.
My brain legitimately cannot keep up with listening to this. The wording is too confusing to me. Maybe it could be easier to read, but I don't read books in print anymore, really, so trying to listen to this with the way it's structured is practically impossible for my ADHD brain to wrap around.
It wasn't bad, but once they got together I kind of didn't see any reason to keep reading. There wasn't anything exciting happening anymore.
