I don't remember the first two feeling this frenetic. It's so scatter-brained with WAY too many asides and internal dialogue "jokes". And super repetitive. It answered any questions I had from the first book, I guess, but I basically tuned out half of it because it was boring or got caught up in the internal aside monologues that were annoying me.
Zuko's family dynamic was always very interesting to me, so I was really looking forward to this. It wasn't perfect, but the lore was really good in it. The spirit in this one was super cool, too.
Well, there's more body horror in this than I expected, though it wasn't really that bad (for me, anyway). It is definitely an interesting take on the "Christianity" vs Paganism, also interesting that they used the word Paganism but not Christianity. Though it is true that the Christian religion in this is a bit odder than most so that might be why? Not sure.
I enjoyed it, for the most part. It wasn't out of the this world, but it had interesting characters and none of the usual "surprise" twists I was expecting to pop up that I've seen in every other book that I now just plan on them to happen. So in a way, that was the real surprise haha.
