Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I still love The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven and ever since she has been on my radar. The Society of Soulless Girls has very different vibes, though. It is more gothic and dark but her humour is still present. The gothic and dark atmosphere is unsurprising since the book has elements of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. (You do not have to know this classic to enjoy this book).

Roommates Alice and Lottie just started university at Carvell College of Arts. The college is notorious for the North Tower murders that happened on campus ten years ago, forcing the elite university to close its doors. Lottie is determined to find out what happened a decade ago. Alice just wanted to escape her tough home situation. Supernatural things start happening when Alice stumbles upon a sinister soul-splitting ritual hidden in Carvell’s haunted library.

Perfect for readers who love a mystery with supernatural and sapphic elements.

Ejaculate Responsibly has some interesting arguments about how we can refocus the way we think about abortion and birth control. Right now, (cis) women are held responsible for birth control, unwanted pregnancies and abortions. This book argues that men should not be off the hook so easily. The unwanted pregnancies could have been prevented if they ejaculated more responsibly, for example, by using a condom or having a vasectomy.

The short book is refreshing and sometimes even radical in its arguments. The author explains them clearly. Even if you might not agree with all the arguments, they are a good thought experiment at the very least about how we can refocus the way we think about who is responsible for unwanted pregnancies.

I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those in heterosexual relationships.

I just found it boring. The graphic novel suffered from the long list of characters, none of which I found memorable. I understand that it is hard to condense such a big book into a graphic novel.
I also did not like the art style. This one was not for me.

I am going to read all of Victoria Schwab's books with some online book friends. Unfortunately, I found her debut to be very boring. Also, the audiobook narration reminded me of the Old Spice commercials.

I really enjoyed the mystery. Avery is also a great main character. I really rooted for her. Very excited for the sequels!

This story was surprisingly dark for me. The art also shows a lot of violent scenes. In retrospect, it should not have been so surprising since it is set during the Boxer Revolution.

I think fans of She Who Became the Sun would appreciate this graphic novel as well.

I hated the main character.
