Overall, this is a novel that doesn't quite live up to its premise or to the expectations I had for it. Plotwise, it's an okay urban fantasy, but certain aspects do not hold up well under scrutiny. Other readers have responded to it far more positively than I did, so maybe I'm just picky, but it wasn't quite my drink of choice.

This is a beautiful, quiet little book that ended on too bright a note for me. I'm torn, because children who are bullied do desperately need a light of hope, but from my own experience this one is a bit too sunny. There's not always a friend who swoops in with magical levels of compassion to save the day, and healing often takes far longer than it does here.

This still isn't my favorite series, but it's fun, and I'm glad that a vaguely Lovecraftian, Victorian, lesbian, killer insect ladies comic exists, so I keep reading it. Support female creators and all that.
