To be honest, the writing style just isn't for me overall, and neither is the very graphic descriptions of violence toward dogs (I'm EXTREMELY sensitive to that). It would be a good book to most, but just not for me.

I cannot put into words what this book meant to me. Getting to see the beautiful children from the first book grow into who they are and learn and love has made me a sentimental mess. Getting to see kids thrive and be who they are despite prejudice hits me so hard right in my heart. This book was breathtaking, funny, and wonderful. I cried so many times from the joy of it all.

I took a chance on this book when I was feeling in the mood for a pick-me-up, and wow am I glad that I did. Even though I pieced things together before the characters did, it was never irritating like murder mysteries can be. Instead every page was sweet, magical, and character building. The world felt large and rich without having to go into too much detail about the magic systems and how it all worked, and I loved the small town cozy vibes even if I often got frustrated with the townies for their prejudice against Sella for something she did as a literal child. The characters were diverse and inclusive in the best way, and I can't say how much I appreciate that seeing as most other murder mysteries lack this.
I am desperately waiting for the next installment of this series. It might be my favorite book of the year. I am only sad that when I went to go see what else this author has written so I could read more, this was the only book she has written so far. I will be checking in with this author often as even though this is their first book, they are already so outstandingly amazing at writing. I signed up for their newsletter, followed them on every platform, everything I could to be alerted at any news they may have for more writing. The whole book had immaculate vibes (I can't stress that enough, I felt every emotion in the best ways) and I really hope everyone under the sun who likes a good cozy book will read this.

I really tried. However, there is no substance to this book. Just pretentious descriptions, self objectification for the male gaze being used as a statement of feminism when it isn't, gross short descriptions of sex and her getting off on being the other woman with quotes like "Of course," I said, drawing an idle doodle with his spunk. "You'll pay me $4,000 a column."
There is nothing to like about this book. It's not feminist anything, it's not eerie, it's not a powerful stand for women.... it's just objectification and obscenities with a ton of over-indulgent food descriptions that aren't remotely needed. I regret wasting my time on this.

Body image issues, disordered eating, and unhealthy workout routines galore! Also, I'M SO TIRED OF MIKE VS NORMAN WHEN MIKE IS A HUGE TOOL AND NORMAN DOES NOTHING BUT SHOW HE LOVES HER AND HER ONLY!!! Hannah is the dumbest woman I've ever read about
