After unexpectedly inheriting an outdoor recreation and tour business, Raven decides to try out running the place for the summer before choosing if she wants to sell or stay. Her presence is very much resented by the staff, especially Silas Reynolds who was planning to buy the place from her. The two butt heads immediately, but will opposites attract?

Let me start off saying that Raven was EVERYTHING! She’s definitely my favorite character of the series, and definitely one of my fave characters of the year! She was so adorable! And of course Mimi Grace is always going to give us great writing that’s so lighthearted and fun!

But, sadly this was my least favorite installment of the series. I thought if anyone could make me like the enemies to lovers trope it’d be Mimi Grace, but it just didn’t work for me. I don’t appreciate how rude Silas was to Raven. I completely understand his frustration, but I don’t believe in taking it out on Raven who didn’t deserve it. There was another member of the staff who was incredibly mean to Raven as well and that really dampened my enjoyment. Silas was not a main character that I enjoyed. I felt that he was lacking personality. I wasn’t convinced that Raven & Silas had feelings for each other. They were definitely attracted to each other, but I don’t think they actually liked each other’s personalities. It felt like more lust, than actually enjoying each other.

I’d recommend this book to someone who is looking for a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance! I think it’ll work a lot better for other people who usually enjoy those tropes!

P.S I’m very excited for Mimi’s new spin off series coming soon!šŸ‘€

Huge thank you to Mimi Grace for this arc! All opinions are my own.

The Forest Demands Its Due is a dark academia horror-fantasy about a queer Black boy, Douglas, who attends a boarding school that has murderous monsters and a curse on the town that makes everyone forget the kids who have been killed by those monsters. Except, Douglas doesn’t forget, and he may be the key to breaking the curse.

This book is just perfection! From the first page I knew this was going to be an amazing read. The writing sucked me in and never let me go. I loved so many things about it. It was incredibly creepy & mysterious, had so many twists & turns, there were so many layers to the story, and had the most lovable characters. Douglas was everything. I just wanted to protect him from the world🄺 And in a very shocking turn of events, I actually enjoyed the romantic subplot. I’m not usually a person who enjoys romance outside of the romance genre, but this was needed. The love interest, Everett, was so sweet. Douglas really needed a soft place to land during this story and that’s what Everett was to him. The ending was a tiny bit too long in my opinion, but that didn’t dampen my enjoyment. I really loved this book! I think it’s my favorite book of the year so far!🄰

I’d recommend this story to anyone who’s in the mood for a mysterious, fast paced, horror-fantasy with lovable characters and a plot that will keep you guessing! This is a book that will make you stay up all night reading because there’s never a good time to stop! Definitely pick this up when it comes out in October because it is the perfect Halloween/Autumn read!

(Also, have you seen this cover??? Perfection!)

DID NOT FINISH: 55%

I started this book in October, made it past the halfway point, put it down, and never felt the urge to pick it back up. My main problem was the pacing. I was 55% into this book and I feel like the things that had happened could’ve happened in the first 65 pages. I also didn’t like these characters at all. I was interested in the story at one point, but it just didn’t keep my interest. The story had so much potential. I wish I had been able to stay interested.

Thank you Macmillan-Tor/Forge and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

I’m almost halfway done with the book and barely anything’s happened.

I just don’t vibe with this author’s writing style. It’s very long winded to me. I feel the 12% of this book that I read could’ve been done in 5%. I DNF’d Blood Like Magic for the same reason.

Sooooo much info dumping😭 It was too much info at once, I can’t remember all them people and I was bored because nothing was happening except explanations of things I don’t care about.
