The main character was a bit underwritten and the plot confused me in the beginning because it wasn’t what was described, but it’s overall an enchanting winter fairytale. 

there were moments that i disliked yinka and moments where i related to her struggle with finding herself. this book was a very stark and accurate representation of what it’s like to be black british woman, right down to the strained family issues hidden behind nagging aunties, and the friendship groups that are there for you even when you aren’t there for yourself. 

The beginning felt rushed and I would’ve  preferred the rivalry between Holmes and Watson to be a bit longer, so they could play out his obsession or attraction to her. Instead I did find him very obsessed with Charlotte and their platonic relationship almost unbelievable. Still it was a good murder mystery. 

honestly a little disappointed with this one. i think it didn’t go into enough depth for the characters, and the pacing was kinda weird.
