a little lengthy but full of beautifully written angst and charm, i loved the progression of the main relationship (although slow at times) and the humour was quite witty.

i felt like the beginning was quite abrupt, like i was thrown into the plot quite quickly. idk if i enjoyed it as much as tfota but i loved suren’s arc and her relationship with all the characters, not just oak but lady nore too. the ending honestly made me bump up my rating, i am just in awe of the way holly black puts so much detail into court politics, betrayals and loyalty. did not know this was gonna be a duology until halfway so i am excited for the next book.

after a re-read i fear i may have to drop a star, not for anything in particular just that it was at a slower pace than i liked, which contrasted with the abrupt character change in suren that felt a bit forced at the end. i adored the eeriness that holly black gives the fae world, and the fleshing out of her characters, and i'm really hoping for some judecardan in the next book.

a well written retelling of pride and prejudice with a mystery element that really added a fresh perspective on familiar characters.

it was cute but the characters were definitely not fleshed out enough, i feel like i hardly know anything about them

for this book the characters are in a darker place (mentally and physically, because they’re no longer in the city of lights - get it?) which sets a more somber tone, which i loved. there was more of a depth to the characters, particularly severin, who you see a completely different side to, and laila, who is being a goddess per usual. once again chokshi shoved my emotions in the blender in those final scenes, she will definitely be seeing my therapist. her bill total depends on the outcome of the last book, which i both am anticipating and dreading.
it’s very atmospherical and i don’t think that’s for me
i hate when authors end a book with the same sentence they started it with, as if the mc is telling the story :(
other than that it was a quick read and surprisingly profound. there were a lot of lines about loneliness or aimlessness in life that i could relate to. definitely would recommend for getting out of a reading slump.
