i'm just bored idk, i feel the writing is just stating stuff that is going on and there isn't a lot of emotion despite the things the mcs are going through being very emotional topics.
beautiful writing, but i was a bit disappointed in the actual plot, more of vignettes than an actual plotline. also the random magical realism aspects were so confusing and not really addressed.
this book is for music lovers, for london lovers, for lovers in general, for children of immigrants that were told to be Brilliant or Nothing, for the homesick, for dreamers, for those who don't have a dream. this book is magical and poetic and heartbreaking and quiet and loud and loving all at once. one of my favourite reads this year.
emotional
reflective
tense
despite this book being named after blue, i think we delved more into adam, which i actually enjoyed. i'm glad he finally reconciled with gansey, the court scene did in fact make me cry. this was definitely a sadder book, with all the characters going through something, and you kind of felt that exhaustion with them, that teetering on giving up this wondrous quest. the ending of this one was definitely more tense than the past ones, and i can't wait (but also dread) reading the last book.
The writing was absolutely beautiful, quite literally poetry. It was a huge and obvious contrast to some of the dialogue; that came off juvenile and quite clunky. I still would recommend for a dreamy summer read.
my first chimamanda book! this was short yet soulful, delving deep into grief in a mere span of pages. having lost a family member during the pandemic and also not from covid, i did get a little emotional. i’m definitely gonna read more of their works
way too much meandering on plot, way too much of saying stuff to sound pretentious but not really saying anything. the characters came off as caricatures, with some having fleshed out backgrounds and motives and others not quite so much; libby and callum were respectively hermione and draco dupes. when i wasn’t confused or irritated by callum’s mere being i guess the book was tolerable. gonna have to give the sequel a miss just because the ending didn’t really rouse any interest for me.
brilliant and unfortunately accurate insight into how it is being a black woman and a black mother in the uk. the only gripe i have is sometimes the humour did not land, it came off quite juvenile at times.
THIS BOOK IS MY HAPPY PLACE
this felt like the kinda hug your friend gives you after a long day at the beach together on a summer day that felt like forever. i love that her books aren't just about romance, and this was no different. in fact, i think the platonic love that they all shared was portrayed stronger than the romantic aspect. no shade on my man wyn though; their relationship was complicated and real and full of so much yearning. the flashback chapters which showed the blossoming of their relationships were written so poetically, giving it that hazy afternoon sunshine feeling that memories have. i truly have not read a book this year that made me this fluttery and smiley inside. ily harriet and wyn and sabrina and cleo and kimmy and parth, their friendship dynamics made me miss my friends even more. perfect for fans of the summer i turned pretty too!
