“Am I crushing you?” Dimitri asks. “Yes, but don’t stop. I like being crushed.” “Okay. I can crush you for as long as you need.”

I almost rage-quit this book about five times. I really couldn’t freaking put it down, but it also might be the most contrived plot I’ve ever come across. Normally when you read omegaverse or some sort of paranormal or fantasy, there’s a world that has been created, with rules and a history of how things work. The world is built first, then a story is written, adhering to these same rules. With this story however, it felt like the author was actively creating the world at the same time as the story, and threw in rules and world-building that supported the plot, and not the other way around.

It was nearly really good, but even though I couldn’t stop reading it, it was also actively annoying me throughout, lol. The premise was top notch and I enjoyed the characters. The drama was just so, so avoidable.

Plenty hot, though. Have to admit I’m a fan of the ‘I’m not sure it will fit’ trope, lol.

Dimitri is carrying firewood shirtless. I could offer to help, but I don’t. There are some things in this life that are meant to be savored.

He plants his hands on my chest and looks me straight in the eye. “I want you to use me like a Fleshlight. Do you think that’s possible? I want you to move my body up and down on your dick like I’m a toy.”

His first kiss in his whole life, and it was with the boy he loved with every atom of his being.

This book was somehow way out of my comfort zone while also being right in the middle of it. If you’re new here, Tal Bauer is my favorite author, but he also scares the shit outta me a lot, and I’ve been avoiding this one because of the second chance.

Me vs second chance:

Anyway. While the second chance aspect hurt, I didn’t die! A miracle. It was fucking sad as shit and I legit hiccup cried a couple times, but it was somehow also low angst? Don’t ask me to explain. While Shane was indeed a bit of an idiot at times and I don’t really agree with his reasoning for leaving Dakota, I didn’t end up disliking him like I feared I would.

Dakota broke my heart, especially any and all flashbacks to the past. Literally all he ever wanted was to love Shane and support him in whatever he wanted to do. It might be 13 years later, but nothing has changed. I mean, they’re not 18 years old anymore so they’ve changed as people in some ways, but they were still perfect for each other.

You’ve changed, Dakota.
Yeah, well, a man changes when his heart breaks all the way through.

Everything is big in Texas, even the drama and murder mysteries. I had a slight idea about whodunnit eventually and I was right, but it was also way more complicated than I thought so it was fun figuring out the full picture. Tal is the king of romantic suspense, and I’m willing to do heinous things just to have him write another one.

If any other author tried to write the way Talifer does I would likely call it melodramatic and sappy — and not in a good way — but when Tal does it, it’s epic and romantic. No one else does what he does.

My beloved breathed a giant yawn and snuggled deeper into my side, nuzzling his smooth cheek over my chest. His body and mind were exhausted. It filled me with pride to know I was the safe place where he could lay his head; the person he trusted to look over him while he rested.

3.5 stars

Sweet little instalove vampire story. It did keep my interest but is ultimately quite forgettable. I’ve already forgotten a lot about it. Still a nice read, though. Sometimes anything by Jayda Marx hits the spot.

Especially enjoyed the little twink topping the muscly second-in-command vampire.

Crow was lost in the blush on Tancho’s cheeks, his kiss-swollen lips. “You are a thief of breath and reason.”

3.3 stars

This book reminded me of how much I enjoy fantasy and the audio was really well done. The overall vibe and world was magical and immersive, and I really loved the characters. They were very distinct yet made sense together. Unfortunately it lost me when the main plot kicked in — outside of the mysterious bond between Crow and Tancho — and it didn’t hold my attention. I kept zoning out and had to rewind the audio. I don’t really know why. I don’t think it was terrible, just a touch boring. I have been and am currently in a pretty big reading slump so that might by why.

Plus points for a really stunning cover.

“He looked right at me. I’ve never seen eyes like his. And his mouth. The audacity of him to have lips like that.” Soko smiled behind his goblet. “The audacity.”

“We have an old saying in the Northlands,” he said, his voice warm and gruff. “We wander lost until our heart finds a home.” Tancho smiled into Crow’s neck. “My heart feels at home with you.”

I wouldn't seek out a superficial relationship with someone when I had my perfect match waiting for me somewhere. It would be an insult to me, my mate, and Fate herself.

This was unfortunately mostly boring to me. I know I’m getting low angst and instalove with Jayda, but why add so much trauma to the backstory if it’s not gonna affect the characters any? I don’t believe the effects of being groomed by a healthcare professional for four years goes away the instant you meet your fated mate. It wasn’t even magic dick. It was ✨ magic presence ✨

“If you don’t kiss under mistletoe, a Christmas angel dies rather horrifically. I don’t make the rules, Hamish.”

Gotta admit this one was pretty disappointing. It just didn’t keep my attention and the story felt incomplete. I mean, it was still sweet and it’s N.R. Walker so there’s a limit to how bad it can be, but that also means I have higher expectations. The story just didn’t do anything for me. Ren felt like an NPC I couldn’t care less about lol. Hamish was cute.

Should be mentioned that I don’t love christmas books in general.

Also, Glen Lloyd should probably mostly avoid doing American accents.

I really love this series and this book is another great one. It’s the second time I’ve read it and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It’s low angst, MMM with two brothers (who don’t cross swords). The brothers are super codependent, but the relationship feels healthy. There’s a lot of focus on Derek exploring pet play and his submissive side, and it feels really believable. Highly recommend.

People wouldn’t know it by looking at me, but I preferred my relationships to be more… affectionate in nature. In public, I was always calm and collected. A consummate professional. But in private, I was the kind of person that craved touch. And lots of it. Whether it was full-blown cuddling on the couch or just having my foot resting against my partner’s leg, I needed to feel connected to them in some way.

“A few guys have tried pitting us against each other, but it just doesn’t work. There’s this little thing we do called communication. We trust each other on a level not many people seem to get. And I think they underestimate the love I have for him. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone take care of my brother, and he feels the same way about me.”

Soren really needed to stop being so goddamn understanding about everything. It confused Tobias. It tricked his brain into releasing chemicals that told him he had feelings for Soren and that was just unacceptable.

It’s kinda funny when the relationship between a semi-retired assassin and a sociopathic psychologist killer feels healthier than 9/10 other contemporary romance relationships with ‘normal’ people, lol. I really liked these two together. You’d think they’d be hella dysfunctional, but nope.

Tobias gave me John Wick vibes. He’s not at Wick-levels of badass, but he would do freaking anything for his dog. Love a good pet parent.

“You never stood a chance, did you, Toby?” Tobias bristled. “How so?” “Serial killer father, narcissistic mother. Not allowed to feel, not allowed to heal. Teaching yourself that the only acceptable way to exist was to be anybody but yourself.”

I read book 1 in this series forever ago but my gosh I was not looking forward to book 2 after meeting Madigan, so I kept putting it off. Then I remembered that I always read out of order and I could just skip it and read book 3 instead

We’re silent for a long moment. Then, soft enough the words could be carried away on a breeze, Nicolo asks, “Did you miss me at all?” The fact he has to ask breaks my heart in ways it has never been broken before. I squeeze my eyes shut. “Every day.”

I was beyond stoked to get my grubby hands on an ARC for this book. I’ve read three books by this author and they’ve all been absolute bangers, and this might be my new favorite. As per usual it’s spice heavy, but this author is so good at making it feel romantic and important to the plot as well. Freaking top tier erotic romance.

It had me crying (quickly), swooning and of course fanning myself. I mean, there’s a scene with felching and snowballing. That was a new reading experience for me, lol. Filthy goodness.

Both MCs were sweet, and I freaking loved that the plot gave them a way to realistically have a relationship as brothers who do it and live a normal life. Highly recommend this book, y’all.

If he knew all the ways I planned to ruin him, he wouldn’t be so quick to kiss me back. Or maybe he would. Nicolo has always trusted me without question, blindly followed where I led, confident that I would shelter him through any storm.

“That’s part of being gay, you know. It’s not just who you want in bed. It’s who your emotional relationships are with the other twenty- three hours of the day, whose arms you want around you when life hands you shit.”

I guess I read same-couple series now. This book had some fantastic suspense and mystery and I am definitely excited about the next book. Fingers crossed there’s some solid mortal peril in that one too.

I must admit I’m not super feeling the romance just yet. They’ve definitely talked and thought about their connection more than I’ve actually seen or felt it, but there’s still time for that to evolve and grow.

Apparently I’m in for a touch of heartbreak with the series soon, so I’ve got that to look forward to.

I did catch myself struggling to sympathize with Mac a couple times, but I also kinda get it. It’s just frustrating when you can see everything so clearly from an outside perspective. Tony is a sweetheart, if not a touch bland so far. He’s a teacher and had a shitty ex. I don’t know him much beyond that.

Suddenly Hart smiled at him. “Thanks. That’s really human of you.” Mac blinked. That smile should be registered as a deadly weapon. Without it, Hart was a nice-looking young guy. With it, that crooked grin and single dimple just sucked a man in, like a warm fire on a cold night.

Stupid, Mac told himself as he headed down the stairs. Don’t get stupid about this. Hart was a suspect. The fact that he had a sweet smile and a sense of humor did nothing to change that. The fact that tousled dark hair and blue eyes pushed Mac’s buttons had nothing to do with it either. Or the fact that the kid was gay.
