“Okay, you’re Black and neurotypical, I’m white and neurodivergent, but we’re both homosexual, which I think is the most important commonality.”

I really like this book. I’ve read/listened to it a handful of times by now. It’s got diverse characters, great communication, and it’s full of understanding and a willingness to learn and just be unquestionably supportive.

Ezra is autistic, and although my knowledge about neurodivergency isn’t what I would call vast, it feels like the book does it justice and is a good representation. Ezra is multifaceted: super smart, funny, sexy, emotional and nonjudgmental.

Ezra had been a little self-conscious the first time Roman licked him down there, but he figured if the man could stand to eat bleu cheese, he could also stand to eat out his pleasure hole.

All of the different names for genitalia and other sexy stuff is hilarious at times, but I also like how it just becomes the new normal while reading it because those are the terms Ezra is comfortable with.

Roman and Ezra just seem to have so much fun together and their love is believable. Makes it fun to read their love story.

“You’re mine now. And you’re going to be a good boy and take every inch of me, aren’t you?” “Yes, sir. Every centimeter,” Ezra whispered because, hello, the metric system.

“I knew you could do it, cutie,” Roman said softly and brushed his nose against Ezra’s hair. Ezra didn’t know if Roman actually thought he was cute or if he was only teasing, but he liked that he had his own special nickname. And something he didn’t tell Roman but kept very quietly to himself was that he’d never been chosen to be on a team before; he was always one of the leftover kids that the coaches split at the end, like remainders in long division. But Roman had picked him first.

“How do you feel about me being Black?” Ezra’s eyes slid from Roman’s face to his arm, then back. “More of a dark brown.” Roman waited for him to catch on; he didn’t have to wait long. “Oh, do you mean the social construct of Black, which includes African-Americans and several other ethnicities that are all lumped together somewhat haphazardly?” “Yes, that.” “Okay. Yes, I noticed that about you. It would be hard not to, as skin is the largest organ of the human body.”

“Roman, I don’t need anything at all. I just want you to pleasure me sexually.” “Say that again.” Ezra rolled his eyes. Roman loved it when he talked dirty. Well, he could get very dirty indeed. “I want your long dong inside my poop chute.” “Ezra, don’t call it that.” Roman laughed so hard that it made Ezra giggle as well. “What should I call it then?” “Literally anything else. […]”

“And how would that work? I mean you’re a giant and Geoffrey is pretty damn short. Would it be safe for Geoffrey to work without a net?”

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but it works pretty well as a standalone imo. I love the bodyguard trope, and the more suspense the more I love it. There’s not a crazy amount of it in this, but the suspenseful moments are great.

I’m gonna call him ‘the little one’ because I can never remember how to spell Jeffrey the G way. Sven is a gentle giant, and is afraid of hurting anyone smaller than him. Que the little one who wants in Sven’s pants badly and doesn’t really give up until he gets what he wants. It doesn’t matter that he needs a step stool to enjoy his prize.

The little one comes off as a spoiled rich boy who parties too much, and I guess he is rich and he does party a lot, but he is far from spoiled. He’s lonely and there’s way more beneath the surface there than we (and everyone else) initially thinks, which I enjoy.

Once they figure their shit out, Sven and his tiny counterpart are pretty cute together. Can definitely recommend if you like the sound of this. Not too complicated but a good bodyguard romance for sure.

“You don’t have to cook for me while I’m here,” Sven said. “I’m responsible for my own meals. I’m here to protect, not mooch. Or socialize.” Ouch. “I have to cook for me, so why wouldn’t I?” “Again, I’m not here for things like meals.” I will not throw the spoon at the giant. I will not throw the spoon at the giant.

Geoffrey knew the sigh that fell out of his mouth had all the drama of an exasperated drag queen and he didn’t care.

“Just stay there. You can put your hands back on my waist—” he broke off when a hand landed on his ass. “My waist, Geoffrey.” Geoffrey always had slippery hands, but the more Sven got to know him, the more he realized that Geoffrey got comfort from touch, too.

His quiet, gentle giant came loud. Fuck, I love that.

Grief was like the great Southern Ocean; it moved in ebbs and flows, often turbulent and rough, or peaceful and settled, and even over time when I could navigate the waters, the tide never stopped.

This was my third time reading/listening to this book, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It’s heartbreaking, but so so beautiful as well. I’ve loved every N.R Walker book I’ve read, but this one is very special, and might have some of the prettiest writing she has done. The imagery and world she has managed to create in this book is just stunning.

It was as though he was the personification of this coast, this ocean. He was browns, blues, and greys, just like the scenery behind him, with a spark of life in his eyes but a sadness too. A little worn, rugged, weathered, but beautiful all the same.

Both MCs are incredibly easy to love, and I wanted them to be happy together basically from the first time they interacted. One MC is a widower and has to deal with the guilt of moving on (very tastefully done, I will say), while the other has been the victim of domestic abuse for a very long time. To say they have some hurdles to overcome is an understatement, but they both deserve to be happy. The author handled both of these topics with a lot of care and sensitivity, and it paid off. Beautiful characters and a beautiful story. Highly recommend.

“Kind of like I’m lost at sea and you’re the lighthouse and safe harbour. I know when I’m with you, no one can hurt me.”

It also has one of the prettiest covers ever.

How was it possible that this younger man could level me so completely? I was older, I had more experience. I was fourteen years older than him—I’d had my first kiss before he was born, for God’s sake… Oh God. I’d had my first kiss before he was born.

“May the stars forever guide us, and may this lighthouse bring us home.”

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below. Sorry. Went a bit overboard with the quotes again.

“[…] I’m sorry if that was out of line. I tend to say stuff that I realise I shouldn’t have said, generally right after I’ve said them.”

You’re gonna have to look far and wide to find a more charming story than this one. It had me laughing out loud, grinning wide, crying a little bit, and just feeling all the warm and fuzzies. It is sweetness through and through, and has a very OTT sassy twink that is also the kindest person as the POV character, and his quiet boss (with total daddy vibes) who falls in love with him. It is adorable to see how easily he fit in with the ‘band of misfits’ at the Dead Letter Office (sorry Julian).

“He’s amazing, and he’s sweet and smart and gorgeous and funny.” Then I put my hands about ten inches apart. “And you know those huge salami they hang in the deli windows?” “Oh, that’s enough,” Julian said, barrelling into the breakroom.

I was worried about the letters for a while because I really had no idea if they were going to find out who wrote them or if the story in the letters had a happy ending. Every one they read made me cry, so there’s that. Couldn’t recommend it more if you want something romcom-y with a snarky POV character, salami-sized dongs, and just an overall feel-good vibe.

See, I have the best of intentions. It’s just my willpower that’s lacking.

Also, I think I would freaking love that job. Doing detective shit and getting letters sent to their rightful recipient? Sign me up.

“I’m glad you’re enjoying your work.” “Yes, I am! Well, I ate the arse of a cat cake this morning and we toasted the birth of a dead woman whom I never met, and that wasn’t even the weirdest part of my morning.”

“How are you at keeping secrets?” I sat forward, eyes wide, excited. “Absolutely terrible. Do not tell me anything.”

“You’re nervous,” he noted casually. “I feel like I’m in trouble. Like I’m in the principal’s office.” I put my hand to my forehead. “Which is kinda hot, not gonna lie.”

“I didn’t mean to offend you. Did I offend you? I’m sorry if I did.” “I’m not offended. I’m also not that old. How old do you think I am?” I looked at him, horrified. “I absolutely will not answer that question. I know entrapment when I see it. […]”

“While it’s correct that breathing can be both a voluntary and involuntary process, I’m not certain I’ve ever actually forgotten to breathe before now.”

I read this book ages ago and then listened to the audiobook this time around. It’s a very straight forward, cute little romance book. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s got that N. R. Walker charm, but I haven’t fallen in love with the characters yet, I don’t think. It has all the ingredients of a brilliant romance - genius, sassy nerd, bossy bottom, witty dialogue - I think it maybe just develops too quickly. I’ll probably continue the series later, but for now I’m pretty satisfied just leaving it here.

It’s super cute with adorable dates, a sweet dog and a good amount of spice, and I highlighted a whole bunch of stuff when I first read it. It’s got tons of highlight-worthy bits.

“Would you mind putting your shirt back on please?” He licked his lips again. “I can’t seem to concentrate.” “Sorry,” I said, not really sorry at all.

“And thank you for the offer, though it would hardly be wise for me to accept. I’ve spent a lot of money on education; I’d hate for my epitaph to read that I was indeed an idiot, who rather stupidly got into the car with a man I just met. Who turned out to be a serial killer.”

He was like no man I’d ever met. Crazy smart― genius, apparently― and absolutely clueless about how gorgeous he was. He dressed like it was the 1920s and he spoke the Queen’s English like he’d just swallowed the Oxford Dictionary.

He let out a little chuckle and stepped back, apparently so he could take a few breaths. “Okay, so I seem to have some kind of cognitive dysfunction when you’re too close.”

Shy was the word for a child’s fear, shed like a light spring jacket when summer came. What Simon had was knitted to his very bones, spliced in his blood, so cleverly prehensile that it clung to every beat of his physical being.

I adore this book a lot. I can’t think of any book I’ve read with a better representation of anxiety, which is saying a lot, because I’ve read a few spectacular ones. It feels so real, to the point where when Simon was having problems catching his breath, it felt like I couldn’t breathe either. Roan Parrish is just a fantastic writer, and they can make you feel anything and everything.

It’s a really lovely story about mental illness, about communicating in other ways than just verbally, the healing unconditional love of pets, characters learning to be patient and understanding, and so much more. Very highly recommend.

“Goddamn motherfucking shit!” Simon let his head fall back and knock against the doorframe of his grandmother’s kitchen. “Some of us are mothers, dear,” his grandmother trilled from the pantry.

Being gay didn’t bother Simon. It was being attracted to boys that was the problem. Because boys were awful. They seemed intent on making his life miserable in order to make their own more amusing, and the indignity of finding them beautiful or intriguing was humiliating.

But when he rounded the corner of the living room, Simon wasn’t pulling on his coat and shoes to leave. He was standing in the corner, face pressed to the wood, arms wrapped around himself. “You look like the goddamn Blair Witch.”

“I’d rather spend the worst day of my life with you, than the best day with someone else.”

Gosh, I had forgotten how good this book is. It’s an incredible story. Beautiful, heartbreaking and funny. I love how identity is a big part of the story, and how it doesn’t matter if you’re 15, 30 or 34. You’re never too young or too old to figure yourself out. There’s a huge part of the book I can’t talk about without spoiling so much of it (check the content warnings if you’re curious), but even without that very important part, the rest is just a solid love story with two fab main characters. They have amazing chemistry and the banter is top tier. It’s also super British, and I love it.

It’s also sort of single dad x2 with a twist, as one of the MCs is the guardian of his brother. I love single dad stories, but I love it even more when the characters feel complete outside of just being ‘dad’.

I would definitely check the content warnings as it can be pretty rough, but if you’re good with them or don’t have any triggers, I would definitely give this a try. I’m obviously biased as hell, but this story is amazing.

I’m scared…
I didn’t think I’d spoken my fear aloud, I certainly hadn’t meant to, until Seb cradled the back of my neck and brought my head down to his shoulder. “I’m scared too,” he whispered, kissing my hair. “But I’ve got you, Olli. I’ve got you.”

Also, this is me through like half of the book, with laughter sprinkled in:

Contrary to popular belief, I didn’t want to sleep with everybody, and there weren’t twice as many fish in the sea, because most fish thought I was confused, greedy, unfaithful, trying to be trendy, or afraid to admit I was gay.

There I went again, thinking of relationships. I’d only had one conversation with this man, and even that was accidental. At this rate I’ll have married him by the morning.

Crossing one leg over the other, he leaned forward and rested his chin on his fist. “Are you flirting with me?” “Is it working?” Grinning, he blew a single puff of laughter through his nose. “Show me to your bedroom.”

I realized…that I can still see…when someone helps paint the world for me. You have given me sight again, Felix, I am not going to push you away.

If there’s one thing this author is good at, it’s writing OTT, snarky and funny characters. She does it so well. These are definitely the kinds of books and characters I have to be in the mood for, but when I am, they’re such a good time.

I listened to the audiobook this time around, as I stalled out about halfway when I tried to read the ebook a while back. Definitely a case of me reading it at the wrong time, but I also did think the book felt slow in the middle, even in audio. It picked up again thankfully and was full of delicious action and mortal peril.

I really, really love how Felix doesn’t let the blindness change the way he treats Lane at all. He gives Lane just as much shit as everyone else and pranks him constantly. It’s obvious that Lane needed that, too. The badass law enforcement guy with the teeny tiny snarky ball of sass and sticky fingers. It somehow works, lol.

“Are we here?” he asks. “I swear to god, if we’re at a stop sign again and you tell me we are here like when we went to the pharmacy, I will beat you within an inch of your life.”

I’m looking forward to starting the next book.

Worthless. Trouble. Good for nothing. I’d heard it all before. It was all I’d ever heard.

I have genuinly lost count of the amount of times I’ve read or listened to this book. It is definitely one of my favorite N.R Walker books, and one of my favorites overall. There’s very few happy and good vibes in this in the normal sense until quite late, but the feeling of hope that slowly builds is really special. Noah has experienced true tragedy in his life, yet he’s optimistic and spends his time trying to make life better for others. One of those he tries to help is our other main character, CJ. He is so freaking prickly and angry. Life has dealt him a shit hand, and he’s just trying to endure it. Behind that wall of prickliness, he’s a touch starved sweetheart that just needs someone to help him and care for him. He deserves the world.

He put a cigarette between his lips and I was transfixed. Smoking was a filthy habit, but I’d never wanted to be a cigarette so much in my life.

The MCs are a probation officer and probationer, and the sexual tension that builds when they’re waiting for CJ’s probation to be over so that they can be together is *magnifique*. I love both main characters to death, but CJ holds a special place in my heart. He’s barely making any money, his entire family is incarcerated except for Pops (who is chronically ill), and when his dad isn’t in jail, he’s abusive. He can’t read or write, and yet he’s so kind and does his best to care for Pops. How could you *not* love him?

Every time I hugged him, he held on for dear life. I loved it, truly I did, but it tugged at my heartstrings, reminding me of all the things he’d missed. Of all the things he’d been deprived of.

Parker consists of two guys that are both struggling a little bit, their shared found family, hurt/comfort, an abusive ex boyfriend, and the whole thing is topped off by a bi-awakening. It’s pretty rad.

I appreciate that, even though Parker takes a moment to work through his thoughts and feelings about being attracted to a man for the first time, it’s not drawn out and super angsty. He’s pretty chill about the whole thing. He just wants someone to love that he can have a quiet and predictable life with, which is perfect for Trey.

Trey’s ex is emotionally and physically abusive. He stumbles into his newfound family by accident shortly after running away, and even though he’s obviously affected by his trauma, the story is pretty sweet from there.

Parker is one of the earliest MM romances I ever read, and I remember thinking the spice was really hot. Over a hundred MM books later, and it was still pretty hot
