I don’t even know where to start!
Wow!!!!

To say that I haven’t read anything like this in a long long long while wouldn’t be incorrect. Not only is this a book about murder and endless twists it is a study of the impact trauma can have on the human psyche.

My head is still spinning from the ending. I had to reread certain parts because the twist gave me a whiplash!

Truly amazing!

Thank you book sirens for sending me this advance raider copy of hunting you by shade Owens.

Firstly, I have to say that this is a very well written and edited book. It truly represents the terror, the trauma and after effects of facing domestic violence.

With almost 400 pages long this book is somewhat of a slow burn. Perhaps it could be a bit faster with a little more happening in terms of the cat and mouse chase I found the protagonist to be real and relatable. This made me want to follow her story from start to finish and also be concerned for her safety, and feel sad about her backstory.

This book is for someone looking for a good paced, well, written, psychological thriller of a woman on the run from her past, and a community of women looking out for each other.

I FINALLY gave in to the hype and read this book. The first half of the book is sooooooo slow that I wanted to DNF it plenty of times but the second half was pretty neat.
Getting to the second half is a challenge though. The characters are interesting and I wanted to know what happened to them but the story never goes beyond being skin deep.
There’s so much potential here but it’s like the author didn’t want to work too hard to explore that potential fully. So I was left wanting.
There is way too much emphasis on how hot everyone is and after a while I was like fine I get it! Can something please actually happen.
Anyways, once it got to the second one half that where all the action is and that part is fun.

I still don’t get why it’s as big as it is. It a fluff read and I will probably read all the rest of the books too because it was a fun and pretty mindless.

If you’re a fan of Agatha Christie style of writing and Sherlock Holmes type of sleuthing then you will enjoy this book.
Rachel is a formidable female character living in a time when women shouldn’t be more than what they look like but her wealth and in turn her social standing give her the upper hand. She is smart and observant which makes her an excellent detective.
Hence the would be victim of the murder asks her to solve her murder, but was it really a murder? I won’t spoil it for you.

My problem was that it didn’t say anywhere that this was part of a series when I requested it on NetGalley so I felt a bit lost at times and I did feel like I had started reading the book in the middle. It is still a decent read hence the three stars.

Thankyou NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this advanced readers copy for my honest review!

“Room meets Gone Girl…. Gripping” - Alice Feeney

That truly is the best way to describe this book!

Romy Haussmann has written this book with such expertise that you are hooked from the first page. The atmosphere that she builds is stunning and completely enveloping. I was actually there in the room with these characters watching them go through everything.

There were times I wanted to put this book away because I couldn’t take it anymore but I couldn’t peel my eyes away from this one…

It’s excellent!

The blurb for the book promises a fast paced, snappy thriller. What you get instead is slow historical fiction that is less about the ‘thrill’ in the story but more about how even the tiniest of events cause ripples for generations.

Nancy has returned to her mother’s childhood home near the beach after her step brother has been convicted of murdering her mother and stepfather.
She is on the run from the press and has dumped her too-good-to-be-true fiancé. Not even two chapters in and both of them find her.
I had guessed her ‘past’ after reading a few pages and I was right, which always sucks.

Elizabeth is in the middle of WW2 and we meet her as her 17 year old son has gone off to fight the war. She is Nancys great grandmother and had run a b&b at the house Nancy is living in in the future. She is a brave woman and her story could’ve been a book on its own.

Overall I think it is a good in between books as it is written well and pretty linear in its story telling.

Thank you to everyone who told me to read local woman missing. If I could I would hug each and every single one of you!

I finished reading this about two hours ago and I’m still in such an amazing book hangover that I don’t want it to end. A part of me wants to go back and start reading it again.

This book is nothing you think it is and that’s all I’m going to say about it because in order to enjoy this book you have to go in as blind as possible.

Ahhhhh!!!! What a high!!

This book is ‘unreliable narrator’ on steroids! There is not a moment in this book that you are confident that what you are hearing from the protagonist’s mouth is accurate and yet you find yourself rooting for her.

The fact that a prank that went so horrifically wrong alone is enough to mess someone up. Then her father who is moody to say the least, while he will always come to her rescue but then he gaslights her and makes her question her thoughts and reality.

A lot of the plot points are a bit unbelievable but that was what I enjoyed about this book. It’s feels far removed from reality but also fully entrenched in everyday occurrences (if you know what I mean).

The ending was truly unexpected, I won’t say much because I don’t want to give spoilers.

Overall I recommend this book for a weekend in.
