It's hard to say whether I like or dislike this work. I love Emezi's way of writing, but I did not enjoy the story honestly. I found it hard to continue at times listening to the audiobook. The main character, Ada, deals with dissociative identity disorder after traumatic events. You follow Ada and the identities that come from certain events that occur. It is a quite dark read as one of the identities is self-destructive and uses self-destructive behaviors to appease them-self and controls Ada (who is supposed to be the main identity from my understanding). That being said, there are some content warnings: sexual abuse, self destructive behaviors, suicide attempt, mental illness, self-harm, stressful situations.

I didn't review this back in 2021 when I read it initially and back then it was a 4 star read. Now, two years later, after a relisten through audiobook - I'm dropping it to 3 stars.
This novella's MC Sankofa, aka the Adopted Daughter of Death, is trying to find the box she had as a child and has been wandering around for years. The story begins with where Sankofa is currently, then jumps back in time to show her past as Fatima. You learn she forgot her name after a certain incident occurs.
This story is all about purpose.
I definitely didn't enjoy this as much as I did a couple years ago, but it was still a good and short read. I enjoy Okorafor's writing style and hope to pick up their other works soon!

KJ Sutton really leaves you wanting to binge the next book to see what happens everytime lol I feel for Fortuna in this book ~ especially with what happened at the end of the last book and relating to the emotions that come with that. This was really about Fortuna processing her emotions and life. You get action and plot twists that you don't see coming - which leaves you wanting to read more. You got the love triangle between Fortuna, Collith, and Laurie. But, also wtffff Collith and wtfffff Fortuna. AND Laurie what's up at the end with that smile??? What does he have planned?? I can't wait to see what's coming in Beautiful Nightmares.
Sutton really gut punched me with that ending. I highly recommend this series to anybody who loves a dark fantasy romance! The series has: the plot, the bisexual tension, the smut and I’m here for it all.
A spell saves Estyria's life by sending her to her mother's homeland. This realm is filled with powerful magic, gods, and a feudal system with plenty of court intrigue.
I absolutely love all the characters. Estyria, her grandparents, Sethalor, and Aedrian - all of 'em!! Estyria, Seth, and Aedrian are a recklessly codependent, soul-bound trio and the tension between them, I love it omg!! This book had me so enthralled between the court intrigue, sexual tension, and assassinations. It felt like reading source material for an anime and I could not put it down.
I'd recommend this to people who like court intrigue, soul-bond trope, harems, sexual tension, and historical fantasies with magic.

~I absolutely love the art style of this comic!! If you like Adventure Time's art style, think of that but with a much darker and witchy tone to it!!
~As the synopsis states, people have been vanishing from the blue city and there are rumors of a weeping ghost. The atmosphere and the main character, Teresa, are very gloomy. The story itself is gloomy. But, Teresa summons Laura, a pink haired, anime-loving demon. Laura is there to grant a wish for Teresa, but she doesn't know what to ask for. So, you see Teresa and Laura cohabitating until Teresa's wish is granted.
~I loved the fact the Sapphic representation just felt natural even in this gloomy atmosphere. As a manga + anime fan, I enjoyed all the mentioning of different artists + manga/anime.
~If you're looking for a clear cut ending, then this may not be the read for you. The ending was very open-ended and up to interpretation.
Disclosure: I received Night Cry as an ARC through NetGalley and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

First off, I want to say I love the cover of this book. It reeled me in with the silver haired man, that I’m a sucker for in any media whether it be in book, manga, or anime format lol
Revenge had a great plot idea that I was looking forward to. A lover hell-bent on revenge against her ex after their planet was destroyed, the ex being up in the air and lots of secrets, a LGBTQ+ cast of characters. All set in Cowboy Bebop-esque backdrop.
I really enjoyed Revenge, but it had its issues. One being that the dialogue often did not advance the storyline at all, it was often like a slice of life conversation – where you talk about everything but nothing at the same time. It also took over half the book for things to ramp up, which I do understand being a future series, but I honestly wish that some things could have been cut out that didn’t really help the plot or backstory of these characters. I also felt like the characters had flat personalities up until the 60% mark of the book, which made it hard to get into the characters from the beginning. Ellie is “I’m not like other girls” type of character, Cor is the mystery man, Zach is the adorable ace man, and Gabe is the man in distress. I also felt some of the representation often shamed sex work, which isn’t cool at all, and it also felt like it shamed those who had sex at all. The polyamorous representation also felt super unhealthy, and I don’t know if that was an intention or just part of one of the characters feelings.
Overall, I enjoyed this book to see how the storyline progresses with future books and if the author improves on the story telling and character developing. I also really love Zach, not gonna lie. Despite my issues with the book, it was still cool to see where it ended and get more backstory on the characters near the end.

If you want morally-grey sapphic characters that try to climb their way out of ash and ruin through their individual strengths/weaknesses this is the read for you!!
This was such a great start to a series and I’m definitely going to be reading the rest. First off, the waterfall scene??? *chefs kiss*. The slow-burn, rivals/enemies to lovers tension was there. The political intrigue, magic systems, and faith of Parijatdvipa and Ahiranya are so interesting that I want to see whats going to happen in the next book! The only set back is that it took nearly half the book to build up to this moment. But I enjoyed it enough to finish and want to continue reading the series. Another book where it hurt me, gave me morally grey characters and that slow burn tension - I live for it. ✨

"Have faith in yourself to know what's right for you. Whatever answer you need it's inside you somewhere."
This was a great one-shot comic. I'm used to more manga style art, but I loved it all the same. I'm glad that Freddy finally found the answer she was looking for in the end. Also I despised Laura Dean from the beginning lol
