Follow Daisy and Liam as they begin an engagement of convenience to appease lawyers and overbearing relatives. I’m not a big rom com person, but this one kept me giggling. Daisy and Liam are so lovable and relatable that you just can’t help but enjoy being along for the ride. I predict this one will be a movie some day
This one is full is great for historical fiction lovers, and it does a great job of highlighting the “magic” of the real world. I’m not normally one to enjoy stories with multiple timelines, but Penner did it well. If you’re looking for murder, not-so-magical ‘witches,’ this is the book for you ✨☠️
#thefourwinds is a heart-stopping read set during the Dust Bowl in 1930’s USA. This book shows the good, bad, and the ugly of farming in old California. I have a soft spot for this book since it takes place about 30 minutes from my home. You’ll meet a lovable main character, determined kids, and a whole lot of intriguing characters along the way
This book is one hell of a wild ride. I’m not normally one to read in bed, but this book went EVERYWHERE with me for the two days it took to finish it. Blythe and Violet sunk their claws into me and left me trapped on the emotional rollercoaster with them. The characters are so believable; Blythe’s struggle to connect as a mother and Violet’s disturbing behavior left me fearing for their family in ways that many books never could. The Push is dark, disturbing, and might just downright make you question your own future as a parent. Proceed with caution; side effects of this thriller may include anxiety, paranoia, and an uncontrollable urge to hug your babies
This was my first book of 2021, and I still think of it frequently. It’s your perfect example tale of not always being what we wish for in the way we predict, as Addie faces a reality where freedom means she cannot be remembered…. at least until she suddenly is recognized by the surprisingly relatable Henry. A closed door or a setting sun is no longer a barrier for Addie and Henry, but you’ll just have to give it a read to understand why
Queer fiction meets spooky season in this charming read. This tale follows a Puerto Rican teen’s journey gain his family’s acceptance- as a man and a brujo- due to cultural barriers and transphobia
If you’re looking for a good supernatural mystery, this may be the Halloween read for you. Kang’s Tillie is such an authentic character that you can picture her walking the streets of 1899 New York City. With a ‘vampire’ on the loose, two aspiring journalists who are determined to find the truth, and multiple bodies drained of blood, Opium and Absinthe will take you through an unforgettable journey of medical phenomena and murder
This is a YA LGBT+ read that many readers can find themselves relating to. Felix’s journey to be accepted as a guy is tough, especially with a father that’s unable to let go of his pre-transition past and bullies that want to publicly out him. In search of revenge, Felix is able to truly find himself. Callender will break your heart, but at least he takes the time to put it back together again ❤️
This book has all of the rockstar and flower child vibes a reader could ask for. Be transported back in time with the magical Daisy and the original members of The Six. Reid paints a picture of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the 60s and 70s music industry in this documentary-style historical fiction. With all the drugs, sex, and rock n roll readers can expect, this is one read that will take you on a wild ride
