I love Helen Fields books. The Luc & Ava series is one of my favourites. As with some of her other books, I found this one a bit slow to get into. However, once it got going I was hooked. Connie and Baarda took a bit to grow on me as I wasn’t sure about their characters to start with but by the end I loved them and would love to see more of this duo. Connie is such an interesting character and I really enjoyed her take on the case.

The case itself was creepy. Meggie was my absolute favourite character and I think she was written extremely well. You don’t often get great child characters. I also loved that there was a wheelchair user. There were a few things that were a bit off like the fact that he was using the same wheelchair to get around and play wheelchair basketball which doesn’t happen. They are two very different chairs. However, overall it was great to see a badass disabled character. The ending was extremely dramatic (a little bit gross) and I honestly had no idea what was going to happen. The bad guys description was terrifying and watching him unravel had me hooked. Such an interesting case and pretty different from any I’ve read before.

I wasn’t sure about this one to start with. None of the characters really gripped me and it was a bit slow to start. I also wasn’t sure how the dead speaking to Cassie was going to go but it worked really well. Both Cassie and Phyllida definitely grew on me. I really enjoyed having a main character that was a bit different. Cassie is a bisexual goth who has had an obsession with death since she was a kid. Phyllida isn’t your stereotypical female detective. She is a stickler for the rules and very straight laced. It was interesting to see how these two polar opposite women would work together.

With regards to the case, I had no idea where it was going or who the bad guy was and I loved the reveal. I will definitely be checking more out from this author and I would love to see more of this duo.

The first point to make is damn this book is graphic. If you are squeamish then avoid this one because there are a lot of gory descriptions. Can’t really expect anything less from a book about a killer who chops up his victims. I enjoyed the murder/whodunnit part of this book but I found the pace a bit off and it was longer than it needed to be. It dragged in some places and took me a while to get into. I actually thought I was reading the second book in a series for a bit because there’s a lot of references to the past with no explanations. It is, however, all tied up and explained eventually. I also struggled to keep up with the sheer number of characters. There were just too many to keep track of. I loved Henley and Ramouter though and would love to see more of them. Henley's personal life definitely added to the complications. The way the killer acted in the end didn’t make a huge amount of sense and I hate cliff hanger endings but, all in all, it was a good read with a gritty murder that kept me reading.

After reading all of the 5 star reviews I thought I was reading a different book. I didn’t get along with this one. The topic is obviously a very real and heartbreaking problem which makes it a tough read at times. However, it is so repetitive that it takes away from the situation. The first half of the book is all about how broken her ankle is and cooking on the aga. I ended up scan reading a lot of it because nothing really happens and it got so boring. It was very predictable although there was one twist. The ending picks up the pace and tension a bit but still very predictable. I found this book very similar to Room which I also wasn’t a massive fan of so if you enjoyed that then this may be the book for you.

Charly Cox really knows how to write a thriller that sucks you in and keeps you hooked until the very last page. I didn’t have a clue who the bad guy was and it’s not very often I’m shocked at a reveal. There are subtle hints though that make you think how did I not see that coming. Alyssa and her team have great chemistry and I also love the fact that one team member is a wheelchair user. He’s just another member of the team and his disability isn’t a major character trait. It’s not very often you get a disabled character whose disability isn’t the plot point. I also love that Alyssa is a cop with a loving husband and she dotes on her family. It makes a change from the usual single and hardened copper.

I loved this book. It had a bit of a twist compared to the usual crime thrillers. I really liked Nadine's character and watching her cope with her secret past. The start is a bit repetitive with her paranoia and distrust of everything but it definitely made me question who could be trusted. There are some great characters and I really liked Clint and Juliette.

There were so many red herrings that I had zero idea who the bad guy was although once it was revealed it made total sense. Once the case gets going it’s fast paced even with the chapters going back to Nadine’s past. The ending was explosive and I really wasn’t sure which way it was going to go. I hope we get to see more from Nadine.

It reminded me of the DI Amy Winter series by Caroline Mitchell which I also really enjoyed.

I normally love this series. It’s probably my favourite crime fighting team and there are so many great characters. This book changes all of that. It was just too much. It was gut wrenching heartbreak from start to finish with so much violence. At one point I questioned whether it was a coma dream. A book has never made me cry this much. The sheer amount of deaths just seemed unnecessary. The author was obviously going for the shock value but I think the sheer amount of violence actually took away from the story. I also found how the case was run was just so unrealistic. I thought it was maybe the author's way of ending the series but from the last chapter, there is more coming. I’m just not sure if I will be reading any additions.

This is a great series. Amy Winter is such an interesting and lovable character. This can be read on its own but I recommend reading in order so that you can get Amy and her family's backstory. There are so many great characters in this series and I love getting to know them all better. I also like that we still get to learn more about Amy’s family without it taking over or distracting from the rest of the plot.

The case in this one had me hooked. Every time I thought I had figured things out I was proved wrong. Especially about Mo whose therapy sessions we get to witness. I also had no idea who the bad guy was and the reveal was such a surprise but also made sense. It’s so well written and keeps you gripped until the very end. Definitely looking forward to more from this series.

This is book 11 in the Josie Quinn series and it is still just as good as the first. There isn’t a single dud. I love the main characters but there are quite a few to keep track of so it might be better to read the books in order to get to know them better. Josie and Noah are absolutely adorable and I love watching them grow together. Such a power couple.

The case is a tough one for the team to crack and there are so many twists as they try to uncover this isolated family's secrets. I had no idea who the bad guy was but the hunt kept me hooked. Emily was probably my favourite character and I think she was written so well. The story covers OCD but it is handled sensitively and shows some of the struggles people can have with it.

It’s a well written crime thriller with a host of lovable characters that make you feel a whole range of emotions from joy to fear and heartbreak. Highly recommend

Overall this was an interesting case and I liked Tori and Will’s characters and their chemistry. However, the book was long winded and went off on tangents which distracted from the tension. I found a lot of the dialogue was unnecessary and long winded which made it a bit confusing. The team talked through every minor step of the case. The twists were pretty obvious and none of it was really a surprise. That being said it was an interesting enough story line to keep me reading and I was intrigued enough to see how it would end. It’s a good read I just think it could’ve been cut down a bit.
