A Bit of a Stretch was a very interesting read and really eye-opening of what it’s like to be behind bars. He explained how mental health issues impact prisoners and how rife drug use is just to get through the ordeal. It also explained why reoffending statistics are so high.

Obviously, as a white male in for a white-collar crime, Chris Atkins had a lot of privilege which he does acknowledge and he knows that it made his time in prison easier than those less privileged. I did find parts of it a bit repetitive and it got a bit tedious in the middle but all in all, it was a good read.

It was so refreshing to read a detective who has a loving family and a pretty ordinary home life. However, it soon gets dark. There is so much suspense. At one part I was so scared for a certain character, I could not stop reading. I did work out the twist but wow what a twist. It was such an incredible read and I am going to need more from this author asap. It was gruesome and creepy and everything I look for in a crime thriller.

Set in London and the same time as Riots are taking over the streets this was such a gripping yet terrifying read. The chapters from Anna’s daughter were heartbreaking and you could really feel her fear. I wish I had read this series in order because this one spoils the outcome of one of the previous books. However, I will definitely be going back to read them. Little Boy Lost kept me guessing and I could not put it down. Such a great read and another one with great characters.

The morning after the wedding the brides family are brutally murdered. Forensics point to a burglar on the run but someone is messing with the evidence and Matilda is not convinced.

I love the Matilda Darke series. You are always guaranteed a gruesome murder with a great twist, a killer you did not see coming and some heartbreak. This series is made even better by the loveable recurring characters. I just love getting to know them all. As usual, this was a gripping read full of suspense and I spent the whole time trying to guess who it was.

This book has so many twists. Every time I thought I’d figured it out I was wrong. I never even came close to guessing the end. I had no idea who to trust and just had to keep reading. I struggled with the fact that I wasn’t a massive fan of either of the mums. They were both annoying in their own ways which made them a bit hard to connect to. The massive family issues also took over and overshadowed the fact that their 10 year old daughters had been arrested for a serious crime. The ending was also massively rushed. It was over as soon as it had started. I wished it had been drawn out a bit more after all of the build-up. Apart from that I did really enjoy this book and will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from K.L Slater

The reason my review of this is later than planned is because I ended up reading the whole series so that I could read it in order and oh wow what a read. I am in love with this series. It is everything I look for. The main characters are all amazing and the chemistry between Kane and Jenna adds to the story. I love that the team is one big family and we get to learn about them all and it’s set in such a gorgeous place. Also if you are a fan of the more gruesome murders and twisted killers then this is the series for you.

Break the Silence is book 7 and it did not disappoint. It had the usual fast pace and abundance of tension. I never seem to be able to guess who the killer is in this series, which is rare for me. It had me hooked until the very last page and I am so sad that I am now up to date. I need more Kane & Alton asap.

We have always been here is a powerful and moving memoir. It gives an insight into what it’s like to be queer and religious as well as having to fight against your family and their beliefs. It’s an important read for anyone who has ever felt alone and even if you don’t struggle with the same issues that Samra has faced I definitely recommend giving it a read. It’s a short read and it does jump around a bit but it is truly insightful.

Wow, this book is intense and beyond twisted. We get alternate chapters from current Patty to see how she’s dealing post-prison and then past chapters from Rose Gold to see how she got to this point. I loved Rose Golds chapters as each one revealed a little bit more about her story and why she is the way she is. It also meant you could gather pieces to work out what her plan was.

Neither of the characters were particularly likeable which made picking who you wanted to come out on top even harder. The plan was just outrageous and I honestly could not stop reading. This was unlike anything I have ever read before. It was such a wild ride and I loved it.

The Keeper is the first in a new psychological crime series featuring DS Jenna Morgan. At first I wasn’t sure on this book or the characters but they soon had me hooked. Jenna and Fliss definitely grew on me.

We get to see the story unfold from both Fliss and Jenna’s POVs as well as from ‘The Keeper’ which definitely added to the tension. I did guess who the bad guy was but it didn’t take away from the story and there were still times where I second guessed myself. I also loved the fact that for once there was a detective that actually listened to the rules of a case and didn’t go off on her own.

It was full of suspense with an exciting ending and I look forward to any future books in this series.

I absolutely adore Karin Slaughter and have read all of her books but I did not enjoy this standalone. It switches between the past told from Janes POV and the present which is told from Andy’s POV. The past chapters were so long-winded and boring that I could feel myself switching off. They could’ve been a lot shorter and still got all the information need across. I was constantly dreading the past chapters coming up.

The present chapters were slightly better as they were faster paced and were more interesting. However, Andy’s character was so painful to read. She’s in her 30s but you would think she was a teenager. She’s so naive and childish. The whole storyline switched between boring and unbelievable.

This hasn’t put me off Karin Slaughter’s other books and I will continue to read her work I just wish I had skipped this one. The Good Daughter was so much better and I expected more from this one.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
