This is book 4 in the series and picks up exactly where Expose finishes. I would definitely recommend reading these in order otherwise you might miss out on how horrendous Spencer is. I liked how this one tied everything up but I preferred the other 3. I think it was because this one lacked the crime-solving element. They added in a secondary crime to distract Hal but we didn’t get much information on it and it was all tied up pretty quick.
It was a bit slow in places as well, especially with how much detail and time was spent on Anna finding non drugged water. It got a bit repetitive and dull.
That being said it was a good finale. I absolutely adore Anna and Hal and they are such an adorable couple. The suspense of wondering if and how Anna was going to escape and if Hal was going to be able to find her in time made it an exciting read. The ending was the explosive and dramatic ending I needed.
I would love to get to see Anna fighting crime without the threat of Spencer. If you love crime books featuring a medical examiner then I highly recommend this series. They are written so well and have some loveable characters.

The synopsis of this book sounded pretty interesting but oh wow was it boring. I was way longer than it needed to be and it just dragged. None of the characters were that interesting or likeable which made caring about their story impossible.
I guessed how it was all going to end because it was so obvious. The author basically had a big arrow saying this is the bad guy. I was hoping that because it was made so obvious there would be an added dramatic twist but unfortunately, there wasn’t.
Not one I would recommend. There are much better thrillers out there.

Holy shit this book. It took me a little bit to get into this mainly because I don’t like change. I think I struggled with Kim Stone working with a different team as much as she did. However, I was soon gripped and could not put it down. This is definitely an uncomfortable read at times as it looks at racism and hate crimes but it is written so well.
I love the fact that we get to know the secondary characters as much as the main one and seeing all their personalities and their characters develop is one of my favourite things about this series. As with the rest of this series, Dead Souls is a fast-paced, thrilling read that I could not put down. I felt emotional reading the disturbing crimes, especially knowing that this is something that people face every day for something they have no control over.
Kim Stone is absolutely one of my favourite detectives and this series just gets better with every book. If you haven’t read any of them yet I urge you to pick them up asap.

I had heard so many good things about this book that I was excited to dive in. Unfortunately, for me, it just did not live up to the hype. Room is told entirely from Jacks POV. Reading a whole book in a 5-year-olds voice is hard going. It’s made even harder when half of the time Jack sounds like a 3-year-old and the other half an old man. It just did not work. A lot of the book was so boring to read as well. There are only so many times you can read an inane description of room and the various items in it.
I found a lot of the book boring and the rest of it just unbelievable. Even with the unbelievable parts, there was never any real suspense or excitement.

This book was not for me. The blurb sounded interesting but I just found it boring. It is an extremely slow-paced read and it failed to hold my attention. It didn’t help that I didn’t care about any of the characters. They were either unbelievable or just extremely unlikable. I was holding out for a major plot twist and exciting ending but it never came. The book just faded out with an equally boring ending.

I absolutely adored this book. It was exactly what I needed. I love how it is written with an important topic and vital messages sprinkled with hilarious stories and great jokes. I just love Sofie Hagen and her humour.
I am also a huge fan of the fact that Sofie accepts that she has various privileges and is using her platform to amplify marginalised voices. There are interviews from POC, trans and disabled people which is just so important to me. We need to hear how fatphobia affects different groups of people and how everyone's experience is different.
Some of the tips etc are in every anti-diet book out there but they are so important that you need to hear them repeated for them to sink in. I also enjoyed the fact that Sofie manages to cover some important statistics etc without making them boring.
Everyone who is hoping that the next diet will be the one that works and is convinced their body needs changing for it to be lovable and worthy desperately needs to read this book.

I love Karin Slaughter but after being disappointed by Pieces of Her I was a little bit wary. I had no need to be though because this was absolutely incredible. I’ve followed Sara Linton since the beginning and every book is just as exciting as the last.
The Last Widow is told from Sara, Will and Faiths (Wills partners) POV. The first few chapters were a bit repetitive as you read the same event from 3 different characters so there is an overlap but once things kick off the pace picks up and it gets a lot more exciting.
This book covers some important but dark topics such as racism and terrorism but it’s written extremely well. I was hooked from the get-go and had no idea where it was going. It’s packed full of tension and you never know who is going to die with Karin Slaughter. I loved getting to see more of Will and Sara’s relationship and getting to know Will even better. I now feel like I need to go and read all of the Sara and Will series again.

A missing teenager reappears unharmed but pregnant. D.I Edina Ogborne is put on the case and soon finds out that this has happened twice before. The pressure is on to find the culprit and stop it happening to the newest missing girl.
I struggled with this book. The writing style wasn’t really for me. I found it long-winded and repetitive. It could have been cut down a lot to make it a more enjoyable read. I seemed to be reading for hours with not much happening and there was no suspense. I never found myself on the edge of my seat and I wasn’t eager to get back to reading. The ending was a bit lacklustre as well.
I wasn’t a massive fan of Ed and her messy personal life didn’t really add anything to the story. She was a great detective but her personality distracted from this. I wanted to get to know the rest of the team a bit more as well. The blurb also hinted about a sordid tale of corruption and deceit but it’s barely talked about in the book. I also struggled with how they came up with the suspects. They barely investigated anyone.
All in all The Taken Girls is a long-winded book with no real tension. Definitely not the best crime thriller I’ve read.

There has been so much hype about this book but it just fell flat for me. Oh man did it drag. I know the whole premise of the book is missed connections but after the second one, they got a bit unrealistic and boring. It doesn’t help that everything is over-described and explained. I also found topics like gay relationships, consent and women in STEM was shoved in to get brownie points but they weren’t fleshed out. Like, Nadia works in A.I but we never see her actually doing work or learn anything about it.
I also found it a tad creepy that Daniel felt like he had fallen in love with Nadia after overhearing one conversation and then kind of obsesses over her. The missed connections are dragged out and then it’s all over in an extremely cheesy flash. It just didn’t do it for me. I struggled to finish it and ended up skim reading some parts because it just didn’t hold my attention. It was a cute idea but it just didn’t come together well.

There are two cases running alongside each other in this book. There is the burglary/murder and then there is a break in/ rape. The police think these may be linked but as a reader, we are led to believe they are two separate cases. This makes it more tense and interesting as you get to see how and when the police will work out that there should be two suspects.
This is the 5th book in the Charlie Stafford series and I would recommend reading them all as they add some background on the characters and they are really good reads. However, this one can be read as a standalone and you don’t miss out. I love getting to know Charlie and seeing a glimpse into her personal life, even if this book broke my heart a little bit.
Daddy’s Girls is a bit of a slow starter but the explosive ending definitely made up for it. The story is told from multiple POVs including the bad guys which did get a bit confusing but it gave an added perspective on the crimes.
Overall it was a great read and I would definitely recommend checking out this series.
