The second book in the Frost series brings up the Inspectors tragic past. His sisters killer is released due to planted evidence. Not only is he released but Frost is the one that discovered the dodgy evidence. It then becomes a race against time to find new evidence to lock him up before he kills again.
This book is a bit different because we know who the guilty party is. You get to experience the stress of trying to find new evidence and stop him killing again. We all know it's inevitable that he will kill. I kind of expected one of the murders but it still broke my heart a little bit. The ending is also pretty sad and the action keeps going until the very last chapter. I really like the main characters and I am definitely invested in their lives.

My feelings about this one are definitely mixed. It started off with such a gripping first chapter but kind of lost its way a bit. Naomi moves to a house that needs a lot of work and a huge chunk of this book is about colour schemes and DIY. If you're into doing up houses and matching your crockery to your kitchen cupboards then this is definitely for you. I guessed who the bad guy was pretty quickly as well. It's definitely an obvious one. I also hated the fact that the who dunnit, attack of the damsel and the why is wrapped up in 11 pages. It's a 528 page book and it's all done in 11 pages and finished completely in a further 9. I hate it when books build it up for so long and then just hurry to get it all done. All that being said the romance side was cute, there's an adorable dog, the majority of the characters are all super likeable and I did enjoy the storyline.
The Kim Stone series is one of my favourites and I always end up devouring the books in just over a day. Detective Kim Stone is badass and comes off as super hard but deep down she is soft and vulnerable. Each book brings you closer to her and she is one of my favourite characters. This book is based on a body farm which becomes the dumping ground for fresh murders but that is the only thing linking them. The plot has a heartbreaking twist that I did not see coming. It's one of those ones where you understand why the murderer is doing it but it's obviously not the right thing to do. Once again I was hooked from beginning to end and I cannot wait to see what the next book brings.
This is the 2nd book in the series and I would definitely recommend reading them in order because it picks up pretty much where the 1st book ended. I was expecting this to be more police procedural but the story is more from the killer and victims POVs. We actually see very little of Fitzroy.
Overall the story is creepy and intriguing. Unfortunately, I just didn’t find myself itching to get back to it. It wasn’t really one of those books I’m desperate to read. There is very little character development and the only characters I actually cared about were Jakey and Clara. Although I was intrigued by Saul. It also switches POV a lot without being particularly clear.
I found the apprentice storyline wasn’t particularly believable. Would a serial killer really take on a teenage boy he hasn’t known long to be his heir? Then he expects him to fully welcome the gruesome lifestyle in just a couple of days.
All in all, this isn’t a bad book and I’m not really sure what it was that I didn’t love but it’s not one that’s going to make it to my favourites.

I love this book (tad bias as a contributor).
I love that these are not sob stories and they are definitely not inspiration porn. They are real, down to earth reflections about life with a chronic illness.
They are light hearted, humorous and extremely relatable accounts of various experiences. Each account also shows a very different insight into the challenges encountered when trying to navigate life with a disability/chronic illness. You get letters from 16 different people all with their own take on living with a chronic illness.
I would highly recommend giving this book a read if you have a chronic illness, especially if you feel alone. It makes you realise that there are others who understand what you are going through. It's also great for family or friends who are trying to understand what life is like for their loved one.

This book was not for me.
Jack is stuck in a loveless marriage with a job he hates and is just trying to stay sober for his son. An old friend introduces him to an extramarital dating site and one night he checks it out. When he goes to meet up for a date his life quickly goes downhill. He has to fight to prove his innocence and risks losing everything. He longs to go back in time to the life he once hated.
I struggled with pretty much all of it. I found Jack a really annoying character. He was just super moany and I could not connect with him at all. The lead detective guy was super unrealistic as well. His attitudes just switched halfway through and he became a completely different guy.
I also found the book pretty long-winded and I found myself switching off and skim reading. I just wanted it to end so I could find out what happened and get on with my life. Unfortunately, I saw the supposed “twist” coming a mile off which meant the ending was a bit disappointing.

Adam finds his wife, Charlottes, body with the word Why written in blood on the wall. Luckily her baby is left unharmed. Everyone is Charlotte's life seems to be hiding something but every suspect Natalie finds has an alibi. When another murder happens they end up with even fewer answers.
I don’t know what it was about this book but I didn’t really enjoy it. I found it was a tad too long and some parts just seemed to drag. The ending was then rushed and over in a flash. I did enjoy the story and I was kept guessing with all the shady suspects. A lot of people loved it and I can’t put my finger on why I didn’t but I found reading it a bit of a chore and I didn’t look forward to picking it up. It picked up towards the end though and I did like DI Natalie Ward and her team.
This is the first book I've read by Carol Wyer and I'm not sure if I'd be tempted to pick up another of her books.

18 months after being wrongly accused of missing girl Jades murder Dan returns home to try and rebuild his life. That’s easier said than done though when the locals won't let him forget and still blame him. Dan is soon drawn back in and decides to get to the bottom of Jade's disappearance himself with the help of his ex-girlfriend.
This isn’t my usual kind of mystery book as I tend to be sucked in by the gross and gory murders. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the change. I had no idea where the story was leading or who the hell was responsible for any of it let alone who could be trusted. When a girl from the past is brought up I couldn't work out how it was connected but it all comes together in the end. It’s not an overly fast paced book but it kept me hooked and I was desperate to get some answers and find out what had happened.
It’s written well and I loved the characters. Some of the descriptions of places etc were a bit long winded but I would definitely read more from Murray.
I was gifted a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I fell in love with this series last year. Unfortunately, I read book 4 first but I have now caught up. I’ve now fallen in love with all the characters and now book 4 is even more devastating. Makes me kind of glad I read that one out of order because I would have been a mess.
I absolutely adore Michael Woods style of writing and he really knows how to keep you guessing and put your hear in your mouth. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of is the way Matilda takes her antidepressants as and when she feels anxious as if they will magically work. I’m also a little bit over the lead female detectives having such messed up lives that they’re all damaged in some way.
However, I would highly recommend this series and don’t let my small gripes put you off. I loved this book and I was hooked from the start. The chapters that are written from the boys points of view when they committed their murders were just chilling. I also didn’t guess who the murderer was which is always a plus. Matilda’s team is also my absolute favourite fictional team ever. There are just so many amazing characters. Especially Sian and Adele.
I really hope there is more to come from Michael and DCI Matilda Darke.

This is book 3 in the DI Gina Harte series and I will definitely be going back to read the first 2. There are a few spoilers from the previous books in this one and I feel like I will understand the characters more when I read the other 2. However, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost or left behind.
Her Pretty Bones is consistently paced and kept me thoroughly engaged. It’s told from multiple POVs but it’s easy to keep straight and it added to the story and the emotions felt. It is definitely an emotional read at times covering topics from homelessness, caregiving and slavery.
I didn’t guess who it was and I was sucked in until the very last page. I really enjoyed Gina Harte's character and I can’t wait to go back and get to know her better.
