There are so many self help books out there for people who struggle with anxiety. This one was really nice and simple. It had a bunch of great ideas how to cope and make anxiety easier. It had many practices I already practice and it felt reassuring to know I am not alone and these methods actually help others.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book touched on the concept that we are not able to judge as well as we think we can. I thought this was well written, but I felt there was more to be said beyond the superficial judgements we make. It makes a lot of good points though, we judge messages based not on the message itself as often as the messenger. If you feel a connection or trust towards a person or pathway for delivery you are more likely to blindly follow without knowing truth. It can be so difficult to break down messages and find the unbiased fact. This book is a good star though.

I loved Rainbow Brite as a kid. It's actually one of those things that HASN'T be revived that I'm kind of sad about... however, that being said... this was just okay for me. I loved the illustrations but it just wasn't the same as what I loved in my childhood. Do I still want a revival? yes... yes I do... I'm just not sure a graphic novel is where it's at for me. But seriously that cover is so gorgeous!!!

Railway Jack is a true story about a baboon in South Africa who helped his human Jim as a service animal when Jim lost his legs in an accident. Jim, and Jack looked out and helped one another for years. They were inseparable.

This book showed how amazing the bonds of friendship can be between humans and animals. I found this story to be so incredible and hard to believe.

The images were adorable and the pictures at the end were just fantastic.

I never knew about Josephine Baker. I am so glad I know of her now. The colors of this book were striking and beautiful. Learning about a strong women in a time when strong women (especially women of color) were looked down on its so great to hear of women like Josephine who fought for civil rights. This is a great book for girls to learn about a beautiful and fascinating woman form history.

This was such a great memoir. It was simple yet so beautiful. This complicated and often naive journey with focusing on hair is such a unique view into the discovery and confusion of gender and sexuality.

This book was super easy to follow. All instructions were done in simple illustrations. I am sure if you sat down and practiced you could draw any flower or plant in this book very well with the illustrations provided.

The synopsis sounds like it would totally be my jam. Alternate universe, no internet, weird characters with these cute little flesh robots. The cover is so pink and sexy I just had to read it.

I actually hate DNFing. It gives me anxiety, But not as much as reading this book. . The writing was beyond me... totally ranty with awful names (LOTTA HOGG is our fat woman, BELT MAGNET is our main man, and then we have JONBOAT, Chad-Kyle, Jon Jon Jason and Blackie Buxsom) Could I have gotten over the names... absolutely. Did I enjoy the page long rants that were over the top and lot weird from every single character... no not at all. It was like it was all filler. And speaking of filler... the 37 pages I got through had almost every type of bigoted stereotypical slur and assumption in them. You can swipe to the right to see the ones that made me literally cringe while reading (Don’t worry I read reviews and apparently transphobic comments and more misogyny comes later in the book) When an unlikeable character has views and opinions that lend to the plot and characters acknowledge this bad behaviour I’m like okay... there’s none of that going on here. We use the r slur, the f slur, but don’t worry we don’t actually use the n slur in its entirety we just say “n-word” 🙄. We also used the term “automatically flailing” to refer to the flapping of limbs and I just couldn’t. Referring to people who attempted suicide as cowards. There was so much in 37 pages, I knew I’d never make it through 767 pages of this stuff. How can I DNF after such a short amount of time? The characters seem primarily white. Except for the store owner Pang. So far I’ve felt nothing but physically uncomfortable. “But Leah... maybe you’re just too sensitive.” I don’t even care. Even the thought of this book existing brings me pain in my soul. 😂 *sigh* This book won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy it or think you might please don’t take my “review” to heart. I love a lot of books that other people go EWWWWW at.

I won’t give a star rating because I DNF this one at about 40%. The Whisper Man was one of my favourite books last year. It was creepy and twisty and gave me all of the heebie jeebies. I was so excited to receive an ALC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. However, The Shadows was not keeping me interested at all. I found myself missing parts when I would zone out and had no interest in going back to find out what was going on. I listened to chapter 3 four times before I just gave up and moved on.

I hate to DNF a book. It feels like this huge failure and it is a huge reason I power through. I out this book down no less than five times to pick up a different book instead.

The only thing I was like YAY for was the Easter egg mention of the whisper man. ☹️

I need to sit with this book.

I have some seriously conflicting feelings about it.

I have some spoilers here so proceed with caution.

On one hand there were aspects about it I REALLY loved:
-the cover. The cover is effing lovely. But also the cover doesn’t match the insides so
