Eh????? This was good for the right person I suppose. I found it very hard to follow, and then it was over.

This was allllll over the place for me, I think due to the large cast of characters whose POV’s you read from. The main twists I feel like I almost missed because they happened so fast and didn’t really have me on the edge of my seat. I thought that
Dale’s reason for being a killer didn’t make much sense either.
I will say, the book was fantastically written, poetic at times. You could also tell the author was familiar with the strip club setting, and that was confirmed at the end of my audiobook when we find out she worked at one in the past! So that was some good insight. Anyway, less POV’s and better twists would have enhanced the enjoyment of this story for me.

Oh wow! A fave YA for the year for sure. Loved the nuanced display of non-binary identity, that was really cool to see. It was nice seeing the characters navigate their first years of college and find themselves!

What a complicated and beautiful story. This family could be any family you know and I think that’s what made it so emotional for me.

Oof, this was… not what I hoped!

The positives: this is a great resource for young queer people wanting to learn more about non-binary identities. I especially liked the outside quotes included in every chapter, I found those to be great pieces of information.

The not positives: I got frustrated in a few parts, specifically with the author telling the reader to “just Google it” like ??? I’m reading a book you tell me? This was also sold on the beginning as a guide for experts and newbies alike and, not to give cis men a reason to be valid but, tearing them down does not a potential ally entail. I respect what the author is trying to do, but that with ending several sentences with “darling” left me feeling a bit let down.

More non-binary non-fiction please! Like I said, great resource for young queer people, but hopefully this will inspire more books on the subject.

A new King favorite??? This was one of my most daunting reads of the year, but I’m go glad I picked it up. Even for as long as it was, I was invested. I think I got lost a bit in the middle, but I was able to get back into it. And of course, the ending was…. interesting. But, overall it was an enjoyable read!

Wow! What a great work of travel writing all the way from 1935. I really enjoyed the explanation of the journey. The map included in the book helped contextualize the situations they were in, along with a few pictures. Also, I detected a few queer undertones, but, maybe I’m just projecting. Anyway, this has me inspired to pick up more older travel memoirs!
