It took a few chapters for me to get on board. I was intrigued by the fact that our girl's dad was a serial killer and that she knew and made no excuses. But her bad af attitude was a huge turn off for me.

But thankfully there was a fantastic line up of supporting characters that made this story enjoyable and after a few reveals/flashbacks and understanding I stopped disliking Temple. She can thank Callie, Brenda, and Yaya for that.

This was a fun read that I'd love to see adapted to the big screen. I appreciated the LGBTQ Rep & the fact that the setting was a Horror Themed Summer Camp that was specifically for POC and Queer youths.

I do love a dark and dirty fairy tale. Riding Red was a fun, spicy, adventurous story. It introduces several characters that we will be seeing in future books. There were a few references to Cinder Glass's story which made me giddy.

Highly recommend this novella as well as Cindered Glass. However, this novella is much more lighthearted.

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next one. This is a perfect fantasy quest that brought me back to my childhood. The land, the political conflict, the humor, the friendships, diversity, and love. I need this made into a Jim Henson style movie with muppets as the forest monsters.

I usually don't give 5 stars unless a book makes me cry. But the way I devoured this book and the imagery that my imagination played while reading this was so incredibly entertaining combined with all the physical outbursts I had, the laughter, the cheers, the fear, the gasps. This was just everything.

I am obsessed with this woman's words. She has laid her life out for us to experience. From the happiest of moments, to the invasion of her homeland, to the struggle of being accepted, finding love, being burned, and becoming a mother. She is a phoenix.

Here words touched my soul and I've decided to have one of her poems tattooed on me next to my Maya Angelou Still I Rise quote because it's a perfect compliment.

Highly recommend.

I found this incredibly entertaining. EVERY SINGLE STORY HIT.  That's rare. I read this after reading The Black Girl Survives in This One and let me tell ya'll they are perfect companions.

This book features 13 scary stories staring BIPOC main characters.  Each story explored adversity, stereotypes, or tradition but in a way where it was not the main theme. The horror was bloody, creepy, funny, and panic inducing.

I have no complaints and need Jordan Peele to adapt this!

Antonia Scott is a Latina Sherlock Holmes specializing in forensics and trained by a secret organization. Her home life is a hot mess, she's not a bad ass fighter, she's a petite, bad driver, who doesn't like to cuss, and is neruo divergent.

This is the second book in her series. I listened to the audio as an ARC. I had no issues reading this as a standalone but want to read the first book expeditiously and the rest of the series as it's translated. I can confidently say Antonia and her partner Jon are something special.

I loved the writing, and the Guy Ritchie type action.

I listened to the audio version of this. The FMC Cassie gave me Bridget Jones vibes. She was just so open, lovable, and trusting. But also stubborn and a bit dramatic. I hated her husband from the jump and knew that ONE of the new neighbors had to be up to something.

I enjoyed this story but it wasn't special. It was entertaining in a way that a Sunday afternoon Lifetime Network suspense keeps you captivated.

I'm interested in reading more books by this author.

This was a fun, and fast paced who dun it. I really enjoyed all of the characters, the mystery, and the twists and reveals. Every time I developed a theory I was proven wrong until the inkling I had was right! This would be a fun book club choice.

I binged this on audio! The collection of horror stories had range from comedy horror to psychological and eerie. Our black heroines all survived, and it was exciting and satisfying. Especially in the stories where they were the ones to be feared!!

Soooo much YES for this one. I'd love to see some of the stories adapted for screen. The forward really resonated with me because they discussed the lack of representation of black women in horror and specifically cited Rachel True MY favorite CRAFT girlie.

I would love to see more spotlights on black women in horror where we aren't a side character for comedic relief, an early death, or simply forgotten.
