This was a solid and fun book to read. It worked as a great palette cleanser for me, and it was cosy. It was decently paced and I really enjoyed the small town setting.

The concept itself was interesting, and a dream come true to me as a reader. I did find the main character annoying at times which took away from some of my enjoyment, but a bunch of the side characters made up for it.

And the ending was satisfying, I just kind of wish we’d had a bit more.
dark medium-paced

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy read and had an interesting plot. I will say that it had me so angry at points at the injustice of it all, and at women being considered "property". Luckily, the main character is a strong woman character who is also angry at all those things and wants no part of them.

I thought the relationship between Cordelia and Bishop was interesting, and I look forward to seeing where that goes in future books.

The overall pacing of the book felt pretty satisfying, and things really picked up at the end. I was left with a lot of feelings at the end of the book.

I didn't realize this was a debut novel until after I'd read it, so I think that speaks volumes in itself! A nice quick read, and I look forward to future books by the author.

I really enjoyed reading this one. Someone recommended it to me because I was a fan of fantasy, and Red Rising and I can see why. I originally picked this one up with a plan to read one chapter a couple nights ago, but then had a hard time putting it down. It pulled me in right from the get-go.

The characters are well-rounded, and interesting. I found myself intrigued with every new thing I found out about a character and I had fun trying to put things together to figure out what people's intentions were.

The story itself was an interesting read too. I found myself constantly wondering what was going to happen, and anxiously flying through the book to get answers. There was a plot twist partway through that really caught me off guard in the best way.

I really enjoyed this one, and I cannot wait to read the next one when it's out.

This book was a great book. My star rating is really because of how it left me feeling at the end, which I think might be the intention but it’s just not the sort of ending I like.

The concept is terrifying and intriguing, and it left me feeling a bit unsettled.
tense fast-paced

I had a fun time reading this book. It was a quick read, and it kept my attention. It was hard to put down with a lot of twists and turns.

The characters were infuriating at points and I also found myself feeling bad for them at others. An overall solid read.

I was looking for a fun, quick palette cleanser and this delivered. It was light hearted, and it made me laugh at points.

The dialogue was a lot of fun, and the characters themselves were fun and people I’d want to be friends with.

There wasn’t a lot of plot, but that’s okay because the setting and characters were entertaining enough.

Overall, a fun and quick read.

I overall enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting. And there were a few strong women characters, which I love. They felt like real people. Frustrating at times but you ended up rooting for them at different points. The plot was intriguing and I loved the world building. The myths, history, and societies were so well executed. I also enjoyed the different magic system.

I enjoyed the writing style. It was easy to read but still well written.

I did find myself super lost in the beginning and I think we got an overwhelming amount of information at once. And it was so slow and I had a hard time focusing on it which wasn’t great with how much info you’re given. But as it comes together, it really comes together.

Overall a solid read.

I had a fun time reading this book the concept was interesting, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters.

I also had fun trying to figure out what was going to happen, and watching the mystery unfold and answers come out was satisfying.

I did find the ending a bit sudden, but I’m overall happy with how it all tied up at the end.

A solid, fun and quick read.

I liked this book. I just didn’t love it.

It was an interesting concept, and I enjoyed the male lead a lot. The main character didn’t really do much for me. I can’t really put my finger on it but she bothered me. She fell flat for me.

I also felt like not a lot happened during the book, and I struggled to get through it at times.

I did enjoy a lot of the side characters and the found family aspect is a lot of fun.

The ending definitely left me intrigued enough to continue the series.

I think one of my favourite parts was the main character. She’s 40, and after reading so many fantasy with a lead who is 18-21, it was refreshing.

This book felt like a cozy read, and was the perfect book for me to read on a rainy day like today.

The storyline was interesting, and I loved seeing things come together as the main character went on her journey.

Overall, a fun and short read with a beautiful writing style.
