I tried, because I think this author did a lot of good things with the complexity of abusive relationships, who you are after leaving them and dealing with the aftermath - kids, public scrutiny, toxic masculinity in the sports industry, etc. I just have such a hard time reading about cops as a main character - bad experiences, makes my skin crawl. I will definitely look for others by this author because I really enjoyed the writing outside of that.

I love political thrillers and I especially love it when they're queer, but I can't read about one of the main characters being a Republican. I'm just not that guy.

There's nothing new here AND I couldn't really connect with any if the main characters. 

Plus, the way Roman kept referring to Danny as a "boy" was off-putting as a love interest.

I couldn't invest in the characters even if the smut was written to my taste. 🥲

The sex scenes were too ... fake? Scripted? Obviously written fictional sex is going to vary from irl sex in to play up the fantasy elements but this was just not my taste at all. I also did not like Morgan.

You expect me to read a whole book about this guy as the MC? No thanks.

I wish that this was a multi-book series. The relationship with Takoma should have been drawn out a little more, especially given the fact that it's a ticking time bomb. Spencer's position in the government worse than Patrick's, as biases were the only thing he had to worry about - Spencer's had the Sword of Damocles hanging over his head since he was 4. Not enough attention was paid to how much that would fuck up someone.
