The dialogue was too much - you can convey awkwardness without relaying every single pause or one word answer. I also like it when romantic interests are on similar footing - if Marcel had been confident & competent, Death being ... Death wouldn't have been an issue. But he's a mess and it gives Death too much power in the dynamic for my liking.

Maybe Nick ending up as

Darkness's heir (and vessel apparently) will mean he will have a lifespan like Parker's

. That would be the one good thing about it.

Ember's time at the office job was unfortunately too realistic right up until the very end

(when Danuwoa said that Kyle had also gotten fired - that never would have happened).

Parker's ruminations on Nick being able to see him are uncomfortably relatable.
