The narrator for this book has such a fantastic soothing Irish accent that at times I forgot the horror of which I was reading. But even when reading with my eyes, Keefe does such a wonderful job of telling one aspect of a complex history filled with plenty of explosive details. I also enjoyed it for the parts about the Oral History project gone wrong as lessons in how *not* to conduct such a project.

I've read Atonement by McEwan and I didn't enjoy it. I thought maybe Saturday would be different. No such luck.

Greble has written an engaging chronicle of Sarajevo during World War II that has been very enjoyable and informative to read.

4.5 stars rounded down - the imagery in this book is simply breathtaking. I wasn't quite sure about Alia and her journey, but I really enjoyed learning about so many people within multiple generations in a way that didn't feel contrite and didn't play too hard on the Arab-without-a-home trope.
