I got about halfway through this book before I started skimming. The author is so militant at times, obsessive at others, and judgmental always. It was as if she had "seen the light" and everyone else was just too stupid to realize her brilliant revelation and therefore, must be horrible people. Sure, are we as Americans eating too much sugar? Yep. Is it in everything? Yep. But abstaining from sugar (which she and her family didn't really do!) does not make you a morally better person. Ugh.
This book was so long! Needlessly long! I found myself losing focus and coming back to focus several minutes later, only to realize I didn't miss any information! I really did want to like this book as several of my friends have loved it, and its a period of English history I enjoy reading about. However, it was just too long and too cerebral - pages upon pages of what Cromwell was thinking and little of what was actually happening - for my liking. Probably won't be reading the sequel.
