I've always loved Timothy Garton Ash's writing, and Facts Are Subversive was yet another good one of his, though very different.

The rambling conversations between the grandfather and the other two main characters was very hard to read due to no breaks in paragraph with each speaker. It put me off so much that I found myself skimming those chapters.
