A good book but not one the best by Jason Fforde.
I'm a fan of his work but this book was a lot harder to get into than other.
It's a standalone and there's a lot world building at the beginning.
Once you pass the first 100 hundred pages the pace gets faster and it's a really pleasant and entertaining book.
The world building is astonishing, the style is as humorous and amazing and usual. The plot, when it starts going, is fun to read.
It's recommended to Fforde fans but I wouldn't recommended to whoever never read any of his books.

When I started this book my mood was something like “I don’t know if I’m going to like”, it then became “It’s a good book”, at the end it was “Why do I have stop reading, one more page please”.
It made me think of a luscious exotic landscape, full of wonders and exciting things.
I loved the mix of genre, from women’s fiction to mystery, as well as I liked the magic realism and the references to Chinese and Malaysian tradition and lore.
The history background is fascinating, it gives you back the atmosphere of 1930s Malaysia and the depiction of the women condition is interesting as well as the one of the relationships between locals and Europeans.
It took me some time to get involved in the plot but once I was hooked there was no way I was going to put the book down.
The cast of characters is well written and fleshed out, I loved them all for different reasons. Each of them was interesting and somehow relatable.
A very good book, one of those book you don’t want to end and, at same time, make you wish to reach the last pages and see how will things will evolve.
I will surely read other books by this author.

The books in this series were always very good and I think this one is the best so far.
There's a strong plot, an interesting mystery and the cast of characters is both funny and likable.
It's an entertaining and fun read that never bores.
It was great to meet again the cast of characters and see the evolution in their life.
The mystery was well devised and it kept me guessing till the end.
I look forward to reading the next installment.

I enjoyed this mystery full of reminder of Golden Age books.
It was engaging, entertaining and interesting.
The book is well written and I liked both the setting and the historical background.
There is no highly likable or relatable character, each of them - detective included - comes with a more or less hidden agenda but they were fun to read, even if a bit over the top.
The mystery was good, no plot hole, and it kept me guessing till the end.
I look forward to reading other books by this writer.

What a great discovery, this was the first book I read in this series and very glad I requested it.
It's an entertaining and fun read, full of quirky and likable characters and and enjoyable plot.
The mystery is fast paced and it keeps you guessing till the end.

I liked the Paper Magician and the entire series so my expectations were high.
I don't know if all my expectations were met: the book is well written, the world building amazing but something didn't click.
I enjoyed the book and it's quite dark atmosphere, the well written characters and I think the plot is fascinating.
I want to see what's coming next before giving up.
In any case it's a good book that I recommend.

This is not a comfortable and easy book. It's scary, full of darkness and - unfortunately - realistic forecasts of things to come.
It should be read everywhere to raise concern and to make people take a stand.
I don't think a review is enough to describe how much this book affected me, it would take pages.
A very good book, it will make you think and may be act.
