I'm speechless and I found hard to review this book because it's full of food for thought and I think I'm still trying to sort my thoughts.
It's a riveting, interesting and gripping story. I loved the style of writing and I loved how the author developed the characters.
It's a story of love, betrayal, politics and the depiction of an era. I loved Skylark and her friends, it was great to read about their lifestyle, their passion and ideas.
I also appreciated Dan even if I found hard to like him. He's a man of shared loyalties and sometimes I wondered why he accepted to spy on her friend.
The style of writing and the storytelling are excellent.
Highly recommended.

I'm a huge fan of Georgette Heyer and something in this book reminded me of her stories.
It's an entertaining and compelling story, I had fan and rooter for the lovers.
A well written story featuring fleshed out characters and a vivid historical background.
I wasn't a fan of the aunt but liked the plot.
Recommended.

3,5* rounded to 4
I liked the style of writing and liked the creepy atmosphere. The setting is well described and I could visualize it.
I found the plot a bit too predictable as I was able to guess the twists.
I want to read other books by this author as I liked the style of writing and there's a lot of potential for excellent horror stories.

I requested this ARC because I found the blurb intriguing and then I fell in love with the story.
It's an excellent cozy mystery but the characters are bears, ravens, foxes.
I fell in love with the story since the first pages and couldn't put it down.
It's a solid mystery, full of twists and turn. I couldn't guess the culprit and liked the solution.
The world building is excellent, the characters are fleshed out and some are quite funny (Heidegger the Owl).
I cant' wait to read the next installment as I loved this one.
Highly recommended.

I always appreciate Donna Leon's realistic descriptions of Venice, people e and lifestyle.
Her books never talks about a picture card Venice or of a "come to Italy and enjoy life" as they're full of interesting and realistic social remarks.
This is an excellent novel set during the Covid pandemic, after one of the lockdowns.
It's a slow burning novel, full of food for thought and ethical reflection.
We get to know more about Brunetti's youth.
There's some funny moments and there're some poignant moments.
I loved this story even if it's not a classic whodunit. The characters are well developed and the plot is solid and well crafted.
Being Italian born and bread I found it realistic and I appreciated the final part.
Highly recommended.

I liked the first book in this series and had high expectations for this one.
I enjoyed it as it's a compelling and entertaining read but the cliffhanger at the end was a bit disappointing.
Cate Conte is a good storyteller and this story is more urban fantasy than cozy mystery as the mystery takes the backseat.
The world building is expanded and the magical system is interesting, the characters relatable (I loved the cats), the mystery part was well done.
I can't wait to read the next book.
Recommended.

The first novel in this series was excellent, this is even better.
I was glad to catch with Jane, her friends and to travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts.
This is an excellent cozy mystery with something more because it features some very current topics and I appreciated how the author dealt with them.
The mystery is complex, tense, and full of twists. The solution surprised me and I loved it.
The characters are fleshed out and likeable, the setting is lovely
I can't wait to read the next book in this series, this one is highly recommended.

This was the first Georgette Heyer novel I read a long time ago and I remember I loved it.
It was a pleasure to read it again after decades and it's as witty and entertaining as I remembered.
Judith, Julian and Peregrine are great characters and I loved the banters between Judith and Julian.
There's plenty of humour, a vivid and detailed historical background, a sweet romance.
It was a lot of fun to re-read it and it's still in my Heyer top ten.
Highly recommended.

WOW! It's one of those books that should be rated 10/5 as it's brilliant, riveting and gripping.
Three rules to rule them: Do not cross the King/Do not go in the River/Do not trust the Liar
We meet the Liar at the beginning of the book and learn something about her. But things change as Sadie, the daughter, becomes the new Liar.
The world building is fascinating, we know that it talks about this century but it could anytime or anywhere.
Sadie is great character and I like her. The plot is told by different POVS but hers are the best parts.
The author is a talented storyteller and the story kept me reading and turning pages.
I know I'm late to the party but I feel like I discovered a gems.
Highly recommended.

I don't think Clare Chase can write a bad book or a weak mystery: all her stories were excellent and this one is the best so far.
It's a complex story that kept me turning pages and I read in one setting.
A story full of secrets, red herrings and something in the past that could or could not be relevant to the mystery.
We read about Eve slowly discovering secrets and clues. The final twists and the solution are excellent and I didn't see them coming.
Character and plot development are excellent, great storytelling as usual.
Highly recommended.
