How? How did Marissa Meyer do it? She took a fairy tale, one that’s been told ages over and not only found a new way to tell the story, but added augmented humans, magic, and a dystopian future that I ate up hook, line, and sinker. What a fantastic follow up to Cinder. The two storylines of Cinder the fugitive and Scarlett with Wolf dovetailed beautifully. I literally could not put this one down. Finished in one shot and already requested the next one from the library!

This one is a slow burn to start. A little world building and a lot of character coloring in the first hundred pages or so. The barriers between the common folk and Families is drawn out along the backdrop of the First World War. It can feel heavy but it is necessary for the rest of the story. We’ve spent most of this time keeping a side eye on Alden, so when the secret comes out as to why he’s pushing to break the faerie door mystery, it doesn’t come across quite as pressing as Clover and her brother’s need, even though it is undoubtedly the worse of the two. You can feel the inevitable car crash that’s headed toward everyone the closer they get to their discovery. And oh, the betrayal. H.G Parry tells you all along it’s coming, but when it happens it’s the depth of it that takes your breath away. The second half of the book takes off and keeps a breakneck pace right up to the epilogue. I left the faerie world wanting to strike my own bargain just to stay a little bit longer!

I had my doubts starting this one. I’m not sure if it was the overload of information or just the after holiday fuzz, but I couldn’t quite picture the world as it was being described. But I loved Gideon (aka Griddle), so I kept going. And I am so glad I did. Part dark academia, part necromancy/magical, and a whole lot of sarcasm kept me going through this book. I did not want to put it down! That ending though… have the next one ready!

Look, I don’t know what these people read that made them think this book was bad or written to fulfill a contract. They are crazy. This was dark, fragmented, dangerous and most of all beautiful conclusion for the Dreamer trilogy. The Lynch brothers will forever live in my heart (and dreams). My only regret is that this is indeed the end of their story but I couldn’t have dreamt a more perfect ending.

A trip to find Nonsense is the perfect way to spend a dreary afternoon. The original gang is back in the third book of the series as they try to find a very important person. I really loved this one, even if it did make my head hurt to try to figure it all out!

This was an absolute delight to read! Perfect blend of witchiness, romance, and inner strength made this a damn near single sitting read. Absolutely recommend reading this one, especially if you need an escape from reality!

Words fail me. A stark look at nationalism across the world and its roots, Coates put the growing dread that comes from living in the now (and unfortunately in the South) into eloquent prose. The blurring of the lines between what was and what will be. From Africa to South Carolina to Palestine, the common thread is the change that’s coming and those that seek to hold it back, from the voices we should have heard long before now.

Dystopian future, cyborgs, political intrigue and a dash of magic takes this classic to new heights! I absolutely ripped my way through this one. The pacing was incredible and the stepmother was the perfect pitch of awful and cruel. I can’t wait to get the next book and devour that one, too!

I was hooked from the first page. This is dark and violent. It warns you but you aren’t prepared for the utter brutality that comes. The curiosity to find out what happened to the girl, cringing away from the stark depiction of the haves and have nots, and the maid’s love/hate relationship with reality kept me coming back to the story. But be warned there are graphic depictions of animal cruelty/violence and child abuse in the last quarter of the book. I struggled to finish, both understanding what would happen to the girl and poor, poor Yany. I genuinely don’t know how to rate this book. It’s compelling. It’s horrific. It’s unbearably tragic.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Gun violence

Perfect end to this series! Ended up nicely with lots of loose ends coming together at the end.
