This was adorable! The perfect palate cleanser from some dark and tense stories. It was a delightful read and I love the message around making your own luck. I can’t wait for more!

Welp, never sleeping again after reading this. Perfect psychological thriller with a family, a child abuse victim and everything that could go wrong and did go wrong. Absolute page turner! My single complaint is that it ended far too soon!

A Grim Reaper's Guide to Catching a Killer

I picked this up not realizing it was a cozy mystery. This is my second in that category, and they are just not for me. Moved too slow, main characters were kind of hard to relate to, and the mystery itself wasn’t engaging enough to keep me reading.

I loved the step back to dive into the twins’ story. Even knowing how it would end, it completely wrapped me up in the two very different dynamics of the Master and the Doctor.

When I got this book from the library I was not expecting a giant tome. But a tome it is indeed. 800+ pages of high fantasy that just does not stop or slow down. It’s got palace intrigue. It’s got thorough world-building. It’s got magic. It’s got dragons. It’s got wyverns. It’s got alchemists, witches, and pirates. Heck, it’s even got love stories in there too. It may sound like a lot, but Samantha Shannon does an amazing job of weaving this all together seamlessly. My only complaint so far is this monster of a book is so hard to hold open to read; even in paperback it’s massive! (Like seriously I have a bruise on my thigh from holding this book open on my lap. It’s huge!)

Such a fitting end to this series! I loved the twists and turns, the unraveling of mystery and lore that Fittes had put in place. I really thought I had it figured out too. I was wrong and loved it even more! Only slightly sad there’s no more of the series to read but it truly could not have had a better ending!

A collection of short stories by the master of macabre, Stephen King. Some quick and punchy, others are novella length stories with deep character backstories and winding plots. These are indeed darker, but not in the way his previous horror stories have been. Tinged with sadness, You Like it Darker laments the passage of time and explores what happens to the road we don’t choose to travel.

This was a mixed bag for me. I’m usually not a fan of short story compilations, but I wanted to give this one a try. The first few stories were out of this world. I loved them! And then towards the middle it wasn’t as compelling, just grisly. Lots of reproductive / body horror, themes around misogyny and cancer as plot devices. Solid mid rating for me overall.

All the drama of a Facebook mom’s group plus murder, mystery, and so, so much back stabbing. You get a peek into all the petty squabbles between the women, kids, and their husbands, without any emotion investment from you. Total win-win. Keep Your Friends Close is the perfect guilty pleasure read. With mom friends like these, who needs enemies or reality tv?

Oh wow, this one was such a fun read! I loved the world building, I loved Larry and Emmett, and I loved Sunderworld. I mean, Sunder Hill. The next one can’t come soon enough!
