This is a great book for elementary kids! In a single afternoon, three lonely kids manage to find friendship in unlikely ways. It also shows the point of view from a bully, and provides a little insight to their thought process when bullying a fellow classmate-- and why someone might act that way. It's a really sweet book and has a great little ending!
This was a great book for elementary kids. It dealt with isolation and loneliness in a positive, real manner. It was realistic, but just fantastic enough to entice young audiences. The book also touches on what a family consists of, and how we may not expect to find people we love where we do.
This book was amazing! I've read her previous work and haven't been in love with it, but this book was phenomenal. It follows a young island girl trying to discover her past (she was discovered by an older man who then adopted her). It was just a sweet story of a young girl and her family-- I really can't recommend this book enough!
This book is an interpretation of a little known fairy tale. It was completely and utterly charming; the author drew her own whimsical and enchanting illustrations, and the book is simple but full of whimsy and deeper meaning. While the book does significantly soften and simplify the often harsh edges of traditional fairy tales, it doesn't completely ignore its roots. It would be a wonderful addition to any child's book collection, and is honestly worth reading even as an adult.
Well, me and this series go way back. I picked up the first book during a shift at the children's library when a kid returned it (don't judge), and it's been a wild ride since. This book is the sixth (!!) in the series and it follows Sophia (who is a die-hard Mary-Sue) and her large cohort of friends as they try to protect the world and all its species from the Neverseen. Obviously, this book is best for late elementary, early middle school readers-- but it's a seriously fun read sometimes. This book moves the plot along but leaves more questions than answers. We get some closure for Sophia, who had to leave her whole life behind at the beginning of the series; but this book is very much just a filler to get the reader to the last book. That said, I did enjoy it. It's funny, original, and has several twists that make it difficult to put down.
