This definitely spiked my interest in reading "The Circle" and "The Every". I'm so intrigued!
As someone who is a huge fan of social media in general, in the interconnectivity of services, and on the Internet of things, this book is basically a mind fuck.
I'm fascinated and intrigued. I can't actually imagine, in this day and age, reaching a point where one company can actually control so much, but I'm also not convinced it couldn't happen.
And you know, I really feel like - even after reading this future nightmare - I would still sign up and go whole hog into the ecosystem. In so many ways, the convenience makes it worth it.
I literally have a camera streaming from my bedroom at all times so I can watch my cats. It's not a public stream, but it's there. I have a Google Hub and an Alexa Dot (I think it's a dot, I'm not a huge fan of this device) in my room as well. Neither have cameras and I mostly only use the Alexa for occasionally listening to audiobooks or to get notifications of my deliveries, but that was more because the Hub didn't have a camera option at the time and the Alexa was practically free.
Secrets are lies.
Sharing is caring.
Privacy is theft.

Holy hell...
I've been unable to put this book. It's just... Damn.
It goes even further than The Circle and really I have much of the same things to say. That even after reading this nightmare, I would still likely opt in to most of this. I don't know if that 82-82 number is right, but i guess I call under that range a little more than I thought.

I loved reading this book the first go round and I loved it again. I reread it because Ready Player Two came out a little over a year ago and I wanted to refresh my memory before diving into the new one. It just took a while before I made it a priority... Admittedly, it's my recent acquisition of the Oculus Quest 2 that reminded me to get off my ass and read them. Worth it!
I've seen a lot of complaints that Wade isn't anything like he was in the previous book, but uh... Did y'all read the previous book? And the opening of this book?
His behavior as an obsessive, petulant, whiny, stalkery, moody creep is exactly what I would have expected. He went from having literally no social life outside of the Oasis at the beginning of the first book while obsessing over a game to sort of having a virtual girlfriend who dumps him (still virtually), to cyberstalking her to the best of his ability at that time (he's blocked but is constantly messaging, keeps calling, even shows up blasting music from a boombox), to then getting rich and famous and getting IRL friends (and finally getting some physical intimacy on ANY level - hugs) and getting the girl (and now having romantic physical intimacy for the first time), to one week later getting dumped by said girlfriend.
Did you really think he wouldn't go full incel?
I would have been more surprised if he didn't go full incel.
Due to his other previous behaviors in the first book, though, I expected that he would mostly be able to pull his head out of his ass and get it together for the most part. But then the new quest drops and he has a distraction that he can obsess over.
I get it. I understand the personality. It is exactly what I would expect from the Wade of RP1. And that is not a negative. He still has the ability to grow and evolve as a person, and while I don't like that he gets exactly what he wants (to complete the new quest) in this book, but I understand the necessity of it in the plot.
I really enjoyed the ending, though. More than I thought I would. And I can't explain why without spoiling it. Hahaha!
If you liked RP1, then I personally think it's worth it to give RP2 a chance, but considering how many people don't like RP2 that loved RP1, maybe I'm wrong.

This book was... Well, awful.
It didn't have to be. It was an interesting AU concept, but it's poorly written and barely edited. The story has potential. I love AU fanfic, which is basically what this is, (Hell, it's how Twilight started!), but it is executed (heh, Mary Elizabeth reference) so poorly.
I'm curious to see where the series goes and if it gets better, so I'll probably keep reading them as they come out, but I don't see much improvement.

Okay, I need to talk about how cute this was!!!
For starters, while I'm sure it's pronounced differently, the main character and I practically share a name!!! I'm Alysha and she's Alisha! I did NOT know that when I picked up this book, but I loved it!
Speaking of - I picked up this book mostly because of the weird-ass one-liner and the comments on the Facebook ad.

This book was ADORABLE and fun! It was filled with lots of geeky references, tons of body positivity, and made a really good example of just how harmful "white woman tears" can be when weaponized against POCs.
And while appreciate the lack of graphic sex scenes, there were a few instances of WTF with some graphic descriptions and communication. But I'm worried about spoilery bits, so I won't explain.

This book was cute and fun. I enjoyed the Arabian Nights inspiration so much.
I picked this book based entirely on the cover and title - and was not disappointed. (Although it popped up as recommended after some recent books.)
Please tell me there's a sequel? This was such a fun book while being so interesting. It's another "VR as our future" type book and I'm here for all of these!!
