I have some thoughts on that last chapter, but I don't feel like sorting them out into something that makes sense outside my head.

Overall, a great book. I was in a similar boat growing up, though thankfully not as extreme, and getting out of that mindset isn't always easy - but it is the right thing to do.

Cute book.

Cute book.

I expected more dragon-y dragons, but these dragons are pretty cool anyway.

I'm starting the next in the series now.

While interesting and enjoyable, this isn't a series that I'm going to be able to read straight through. I will absolutely be finishing the series, but with some other books in between.

I started with this prequel short story and it's a fantastic intro into the books.

This is a retelling of the goose girl fairytale. To be honest, though, I don't remember that one too well. I recall that it exists, and that's about it. Maybe after I finish these books I'll read that story and see how it stacks up.

But on to this book... I really enjoyed it. The prequel short was a nice introduction to the main character and I loved the way everything was written. The characters felt properly fleshed out and I love the full circle explanations of certain things at the end of the story.

But I think my favorite part (very minor with no details spoiler) is that there's no instant happily ever after. This book ends with a very realistic work-in-progress vibe that I just adore!

NEW CHARACTERS!

I thought this would just be an interlude between Alyrra and Kestrin. But it's not!

I'm assuming and hoping that Rae plays an interesting part in the next book - which I assume she will.

Ummm..... No no no no no. I didn't sign up for a cliffhanger!!!

Okay, in truth, I didn't look into much of anything regarding the series ahead of time, I just thought the titles, covers, and blurb for the first book were awesome. I thought it was a duology.
