a romance with Indiana Jones, National Treasure, and Outlawed vibes that will require much suspension of reality and belief but will be fun along the way, especially if you’re into treasure hunting or geocaching or second chance tropes!
here to once again rave about the genius that is @d.jacksonpoetics. 🙌🏼 this new collection of poetry continues in putting words to the Gospels in a way unlike any i’ve ever heard or read — the back flap described it as protest poetry meets Bible commentary. i’d just add that it’s also masterful and lyrical and blazingly sharp, surprising me so many times. reading these poems alongside the passages of like they drew from was such a rich experience, and brought so much out of the text for me.
this book felt like a combination of nicholas sparks + the dead romantics + only murders in the building, with a dash of cinderella, but like, with a soft tone and a strong found family vibe?
beauty and the beast as a modern day retelling?! YES PLZ. 😍 this was even more bookish than the Disney movie i loved as a kid, and definitely was a fresh and new spin on the storyline, while keeping so many great nods to the magic and the heart of the story. it was CUTE!
i listened to this one on audio (which was enjoyable) and found that as someone who never really grew up watching the news or having a whole lot of context for news anchors as personalities/celebrities, it was interesting to learn more about couric’s career trajectory, how her work affected her personal life, the challenges she faced as a female in a male-dominated field, and her stories about others in the field who have had public scandals.
oh we are BACK IN ACTION now! this one picked up the pace and got goooood again after a slow book #2 in this nostalgic, dystopian YA series, and i’m glad i stuck with it. i know i didn’t read this far as a teenager but i also know i would have loved it if i had, and i would have had FEELINGS about the zane/david/tally love triangle! (#teamdavid now, probably #teamzane then 🙄)
it is FUN to reread books you loved as a teenager, lemme tell ya! except, i don’t think i read this far into the uglies series (lol, this is only book 2 out of 4) because it didn’t ring any bells like the first book did, but still! this just didn’t have the action and the pacing and characters i liked so much about uglies, and i was losing my PATIENCE with all the pretty-talk (how many times can they call a thing “bubbly”?! my gosh 😵💫)
definitely going to keep reading though, because i’m committed now 😅
