it seemed like the perfect cute read, and it was! I think I’m realizing romances are more my speed when they’re in the YA category and involve less straight-up sex, so this was my jam. It’s a fun story of two teens, a viral twitter battle between the family restaurant business accounts they run, an anonymous school chat app, and a budding romance. I loved it!

This isn’t the book I expected from JVN, but I loved it more than I anticipated. It’s a side of him that isn’t usually shown on Queer Eye (a show I ADORE)— deeper, more raw, messy, complex, and layered with pain and struggle. His story is redemptive and real, and I’m so glad he shared it. (ps— his Getting Curious podcast is also a gem— thoughtful and interesting!)

Oof, this was a heavy one. Glad to have read it since it’s definitely relevant to current events and the culture we live in. It deals with some hard themes and content (racism, rape, a really bizarre/disturbing stepdad/stepdaughter sexual attraction, death, injustice, purity culture, privilege, suicide)... which probably doesn’t make it seem like a great read, but it really was a powerful story and unsettling in a way I think is necessary to shake and wake us up to the world we live in so we can be more aware and take better action. But also it could definitely be triggering, so take caution.)

This one was a counselor recommendation this month, but after reading Defiant, I knew God was trying to teach me something in the Exodus story so I dove in. I looooved this one, too. Convicting and enlightening and encouraging, and I just want to read everything I can about/in/on Exodus and the wilderness right now. Any recs for me?!

Just finished this one. Still crying. It’s beautiful and touching and nuanced. An excellently written middle grade novel with deep emotion and strong themes and an ending that brought all the feels. Highly recommend (if you’re needing a good cry).

A random @bookoutlet add, and a suuuuuper fast read for today! A whole series of false starts and missteps and misunderstandings, all in a YA context and a London setting, with the classic tropes and stereotypes. Not a fave.

this one was a bit of a slow burn but it had me hooked, kept me guessing, and surprised me at the end! Signs of a solid thriller, for sure. A summer camp, disappearing girls, switching timelines, many games of two truths and a lie, schizophrenia, a return to the camp, clues + creepiness, an old insane asylum, teenage girl cattiness, more disappearing girls, several suspects, and a great epilogue.

it’s Jen’s story of ups and downs and searching for a healthy lifestyle and accurate diagnosis for her mental health, and it was encouraging to read a “successful” entrepreneur/creative share their honest story. It can be easy to just see the outside and the popular, joyful brand and think that the co-founder has surely had it easy, and I appreciate the realness here.

If you are a fan of Jane the Virgin and telenovelas and hispanic culture, you’ll love this fun romance read! As the telenovela characters got closer, so did the actors playing them, and it was a cute (and steamy at times!) story.

We have all fallen in love with @morganharpernichols on insta, and I’m here to tell you the love and gratitude for her work only grows seeing it in print. How many times did I tear up reading these poems? Too many to count. Too good.
