It was a suuuuuuper unfiltered and uncensored collection of essays telling stories of life and love and sex and dating and more. I will say there was a date rape joke in here that turned me off hardcore... but overall, it was really honest and I can appreciate that!

This was a random library grab for me and overall wasn’t my fave but there were a few wins— diverse characters (and author!), female empowerment, talk of CTE in football... and some downsides— a past of abuse in a boss/employee romance, a lack of really relatable characters, etc.

Thank you for sending this one, @putnambooks — I missed the initial hype but after reading it now, I see why it got so much! It was timely and fresh and the perfect storm of race, privilege, classism, relationships, geography, and more. I couldn’t put it down!

Thanks for the free book, @randomhouse! // I laughed out loud reading this one SO many times. His voice is witty and winsome and wise and wonderful and this book is a TREASURE.

Flew through this one and I LOVED it. It tackled some hard and heavy topics in a real and readable way. Suuuuch a solid YA read, such timely content, such endearing characters.

I had this plot predicted by page three, and immediately lost interest. I skimmed through the rest of it, half reading chunks, half seeing how right i was, and yeppppp— had it nailed. Such a bummer considering I loved her first two books! The writing style just felt super bland and boring, the characters didn’t have great depth, and it was a miss for me all around.

This was a really fun and original YA romance — love a good cross-cultural, diverse, unique storyline, complete with parallel journal entries and lots of emphasis on fighting islamophobia and awareness of living with MS, too. It’s not just fluff, but had some great themes and strong storylines and all the best elements of a teenage love story. Well done!!

Learned a lot from Gladwell in this one. It went so much deeper and covered a much wider spectrum of topics than I expected (I think I thought it was more focused on just the Bible story?) — it was fascinating and eye opening! I’m definitely not an audial learner and I for sure tuned out for some good chunks of this one, but I did enjoy it overall, even though I do think i would have processed it better if I had read the physical book. Loved all the counter-cultural themes though, and appreciative of the wisdom here!

Yep, Angie Thomas has done it again, writing an unputdownable book that is relevant and timely and crackles with energy and feels fresh and powerful and deep while still being fun and such an enjoyable reading experience. She’s a powerhouse. Loved the rap focus of this one, and the strong young female protagonist, and the fiery stances woven so flawlessly throughout the dialogue and plot... it’s just SO GOOD.
