A great exploration of grief ft. some seriously great banter and one of my new favourite adult romances!

I haven't been in love with this book on this re-read and I think that's down to my revelation that Cress is a minor and Thorne is 20, so their relationship kind of freaks me out! I am super excited to read book 4 though since it's my favourite in the series!

Solid book with good character development but I’m super curious to know the fandom’s consensus on Annabeth’s parents because I’m not sold.

A little fun fact about me: I talk a lot when I read. Another fun fact about me: I'm not at my most lucid at 6am. So, picture me reading Percy Jackson at the crack of ass AM on the bus with my headphones in and then commentating and putting my sarcastic 2 cents in constantly for over an hour... I guess you could say I enjoyed this book. Also, I'm so sorry to anyone who had to deal with me on the bus that day 🤦♀️

I'm not sure if this is a 3 star or just a bit higher than that but I really enjoyed this! I'm going to be honest, the nostalgia is there for me and I love the main trio, but I don't think I'm loving this as much as I did when I was a kid. However, I've read each book in the series in practically one stint each so I clearly do still enjoy the series! Also, the main takeaway I got from this book is that this series is clearly where my environmental awareness came from as a child because Rick Riordan has had something to say about the environment as well as animal treatment in each book so far and I'm really enjoying that aspect of the series!

I'm so happy that I randomly decided to pick this up yesterday. I've been in a reading slump for the past week so I'm hoping I can dive back into my reading now - whether that be finishing this series or continuing on through A Darker Shade of Magic.
Trigger Warnings: Bullying, talk of abusive relationship (marriage & parental) - mental, physical, control of money by abusive parent, gambling, loss of a loved one (past), arachnophobia, injury, confined spaces, caged soon animals, mistreatment and abuse of animals

“It is white people’s responsibility to be less fragile; people of color don’t need to twist themselves into knots trying to navigate us as painlessly as possible.”
I think this is a valuable starting point for white people struggling with not feeling attacked when it comes to racism. But, this is also a book about racism written by a white woman, so... there are definitely a lot of other non-fic books about racism written by black authors that we could be reading. I definitely think this a valuable read but at the same time, it takes 6 hours for the author to say something that I've seen other people say in 1 short twitter thread in the past week so do what you want with that.

I really enjoyed this! I actually enjoyed Scarlet and Wolf a lot more this time than I have in the past and I thought the plot was really interesting. Definitely excited to dive into Cress soon.
Past review/s:
Okay, so this used to be my favourite in the series but after re-reading it I am having second thoughts. I definitely like this book but I found scarlet to be a bit annoying. Also Scarlet could be so incredibly violent at times, her violence was also really inconsistent - In one scene she'd be cowering behind something and whimpering and in another scene, she's shooting Lunars.
Trigger Warnings: parental abandonment, death, manipulation (emotional, physical), murder, threat of sexual assault, death, injury, loss of limbs/body parts

I didn't love this as much as I usually do, especially considering this is usually one of my favourites in the series, but I think I was in a bit of a funk reading this. I'll definitely be continuing my re-read of the series, though.

I can definitely see why this is so many people's least favourite in the series, it's definitely one of the least "epic" of Percy's adventures and it's pretty short. There's also some language used in this one that I know would never fly nowadays and I'm surprised I didn't pick up on it all the times I re-read this. As a kid, SoM was one of my favourite books in the series and honestly, I totally get what kid me was thinking because this was so much fun! I loved getting to see Percy develop as a character and I had a blast meeting new characters at Camp Half-Blood!

I am so glad I decided to reread this. We meet so many of the characters in this book and you can really appreciate the Grover and Percy bromance more in this novel.
Trigger Warnings: Homeless children, parental abandonment, use of word freak, r*tard (challenged) & fatty, feeling insecure about appearance, death, injury

"Her mother believed in faeries and angels and crystal visions, but what would she make of real magic? Could she grasp the ugly truth of it all? That magic was a commodity that only some people could afford?"
This was pretty damn good. It wasn't perfect by any means, the first 100 pages were a bit shaky and it felt like the author was still trying to find their footing but Bardugo really found her groove once she kickstarted the mystery aspect of the story! The book does hit a bit of a lull towards the end but, all in all it was an engaging read and I don't think it deserves all the hate it got when it first came out.
I'd be really interested to see if the people who gave this a low rating did so because they genuinely had a problem with the book/didn't like it or if it was because a bunch of YA readers who love the author were suddenly reading a dark, hard-hitting adult novel and then rated it harshly because of that.
I strongly suggest looking up triggers before reading and not just picking it up because you like the author's YA books. As long as you know it's dark academia and you're aware of the triggers, you should know exactly what you're getting into and whether or not you'll like it! This is a really atmospheric book, perfect for a rainy day, and once you're into it, it's super easy to binge-read so I definitely recommend it!
Trigger Warnings: violence, death, murder (on page, graphic), dead bodies (graphic depiction), autopsies, ritual, infected wounds, self-inflicted pain, drug use, overdose, anxiety, corpses, child rape (12, graphic), statutory rape (15), sex, assault, sexual assault, violence, past trauma (PTSD), loss of a loved one (past), grief, magical date rape drug, gore, drowning (on page), parental neglect and manipulation/abuse, racism, forced/drugged sexual assault of multiple women filmed on video circulated amongst a group of men, forced eating of human waste (to a rapist), talk of suicide, physical abuse, blackmail, use of words like whore, slut & bitch, toxic relationships, physical abuse for sexual pleasure (depicted negatively), bloodletting & self-harm

This isn't perfect by any means but I really did have an amazing time re-reading it! Percy, Annabeth and Grover had a massive impact on my childhood and I love them for that. I've read these books more times than I can count, but wow this was such a different experience for me this time around. I noticed so many other little details with this re-read and it has me even more excited for the Disney+ show!

“We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.”
I don't even know where to begin. I disliked most of this second trilogy but, I honestly can't believe my time with these characters is over. I really enjoyed this book and now that it's over I'm kind of bummed about it. I can't wait to read the next series and get to know Emma and the Blackthorns more (I have a hunch that I'll love Ty!) but yeah, I'm seriously sad this story is over, which is not something I ever expected would be the case, considering how I rated the previous books! This wasn't a perfect final by any means, but nevertheless I'll miss these characters.
