Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool. Honestly, I've read Macbeth so many times that I don't really know what to say about it at this point. Other than that Lady Macbeth even on my 4th or 5th read through, is the best and most interesting character in the entire play and also I made fudge while listening to it this time so that was fun.
2016
I read this as part of Shakespeare Week and I don't regret it. This was a great read and I can't wait to read more of his works in the future!

I just can't get over the fact that Juliet is 13 and Romeo is most likely only like, 15 or 16 and this is supposed to be one of the greatest love stories of all time?

Oof, that was a rough hour and a half. I know some people love this play, and obviously it's famous for a reason but DAMN for something with so much action, it's really really boring. (That being said, do yourselves a favour and listen to it or watch it, don't read it with your eyes.)
2 stars. both for the language which is the only thing I liked about this play. A great romance? Give me a break. Twilight is a better love story than this.

Such a fantastic and action-heavy finale! I had a blast re-reading this and now I can't wait to start my re-read of the Heroes of Olympus!

"Could be a problem for another generation of demigods, I agreed. Then we can kick back and enjoy."
I suddenly got the urge to reread the rest of this series over the past few days and boy, am I glad I did! This series is soo much fun and now I kind of feel like rereading the Heroes of Olympus.
Trigger Warnings: dark spaces, small spaces, death, injury, loss of a loved one (past, present)

The only way I can describe this book is "cold spaghetti". It's got (almost) all the right ingredients but it's freaking cold, man! On to book 2!

This might be the first time I've read this one and actually really liked Jason. That being said, I can't wait to read book 2 because PERCY 100% he's my fave!

Not my favourite Riordan-Verse novel so far but for the most part, I did enjoy it. I ended up binge-reading the majority of it in one day and I went from feeling neutral about the main duo to loving them all by the end of the book so I'm really excited to see where this series goes and what weird shit the characters do next.

If you take a shot every time Edward mentions being a monster or pomegranates or the underworld you'd probably 1, get the worst eye roll-induced headache in the world and 2, die of alcohol poisoning.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually enjoyed this and would consider reading it again, over Twilight the next time I'm in a nostalgic mood. I'm just as shocked as you are.

We don't need this at all, but you can be damn sure that I'll be reading it the second it's released on August 4th!

Not the best writing in the world and it was a tad insta-lovey but I did really enjoy reading it and will definitely be continuing in the series. That being said, this book is very fatphobic and uses some extremely girl-hatey and misogynistic language which took me out of the story every time and I was not a fan!
Honestly, this book has a lot of problems but like so many YA books that came out around the time this did, it's really easy to read and has a really dorky cinnamon roll for a main character, plus the love interest is cute and a witch, so it's hard not to binge-read it super quickly and fall slightly in love with the idea of it all.

Trigger Warnings: use of word "fatty", fat jokes, fat insults (not challenged), grave digging, use of word slutty, misogynistic language, fatphobic language

"For the first time all day I felt safe. Except that Patch had cornered me in a dark tunnel and was possibly stalking me. Maybe not so safe."
I knew I was going to hate this so I honestly can't tell you why I finished it but I did and now I have to try and formulate coherent thoughts on it. Long story short, Patch is a grossly controlling and toxic, Nora is boring and naive and this book is, to put it nicely, badly written and extremely fatphobic.
Trigger Warnings: Loss of a loved one (past), murder, death, comment about someone dying from lung cancer "hopefully soon", sexism, misogyny, fat jokes, fatphobic comments, mentions of dieting, romanticising stalking, mentions of dead animals, use of word "gypsy", heights/high places, carnival rides, guns, mugging, offhand comments about suicide, talk of murder, use of words: skank, slut & anorexic pig, phobic and toxic language used surrounding body image, joke about taking advantage of a girl alone at night

I found some aspects of this really interesting and learned a lot of things that I'd literally never heard before but, for the most part, because the author focused so much on religion, most of this book went over my head. I highly recommend this for anyone who follows or takes part in Christianity.

“Children ceased to be children when you put a sword in their hands. When you taught them to fight a war, then you armed them and put them on the front lines, they were not children anymore. They were soldiers.”
I have seen people raving about this book non-stop on my Twitter feed lately so I finally decided, enough is enough and put the audiobook on, only to discover that I have been seriously missing out! This book isn't perfect and really slows down in the middle (part 1 was my favourite but damn it got me again in the last couple of chapters!). It's also relentlessly heartbreaking and brutal and can be so so hard to stomach. Also, I highly recommend, that reading chapter 21 not be the first thing you do when you wake up because oh boy, will it set the tone for the rest of your day!
So, yeah, what can I say? R. F. Kuang has done something really special with The Poppy War and I absolutely cannot wait to see what she does next!
Trigger Warnings: Parental abandonment, Abuse (physical, mental - on-page), Drug use, Drug addiction, War themes, Self-harm, Racism, Misogyny, Genocide, Bullying, Animal death, Animal cruelty, Graphic depictions of death, Torture, Murder & very graphic depictions of rape, Graphic murder of a pregnant lady (7/8 months), Tearing of a baby from a mother's stomach and then the murder of the baby (Graphic!), Graphic depictions of the mass murder of entire communities, racial experimental (not consented to).
