Buddy read with Destiny
So, this month my tbr was picked by Rebecca and one of the books she picked out for me to read was Rafe. And oh boy, I knew I was either going to love this or not care and unfortunately I've fallen on the side of not caring so much.
I loved Rafe as a character because he's a sweetie but cuteness only goes so far and unfortunately, he couldn't save his own book. Basically, this book had potential and talked about some really important topics, also the love interest is a black female surgeon (she's also a single mum!) and I really appreciated her perspective, her twin daughters are also biracial! So, there was a lot of different discussions going on - from big ones like how hard it is to be a single mum, to hair routines for 6 yr old girls! But, unfortunately, this book fell hella short.
Rafe is amazing and Sloan is a super interesting pov to read from + the kids were adorable but, they are really the only reason to read this book. What ruined the book for me was the pointless dialogue, the weird slang that I literally had no idea what it meant, a stupidly obvious and a rushed ending basically only written to sell the next book. Also, not as big of a deal as the weird writing but some scenes really took me out of the book - there's a scene at an airport and the resulting in the most unrealistic culmination of a plot point that I've read in a while and I was less than impressed by it.

SO CUTE 😍😍😍 This didn't have much substance to it but it was really helpful for me to learn how to read mangas and because it wasn't very complex I was able to get my head around re-learning how to read on the page without confusing the storyline for myself.

When I first picked this up I was expecting it to be a 3 star at best, if i didn't end up DNFing it. So, the fact that I'm honestly considering rating it between 4 and 5 stars is wild to me. I loved the whole concept of this book and I need a tv show asap. I honestly loved everything about this and I will be finding every excuse to recommend it!

I am happy and kind of surprised to say that I actually really enjoyed this! I managed to read the bulk of this which is actually a huge accomplishment for me because I always get massively distracted while I'm there, so that's a real testament to how much fun this was! I'll definitely be continuing this series!

I don't really know what to say. When I was 12 this book was absolutely wild to me and one of my favourites in the series, but rereading it now it just feels super formulaic and obvious.

I think I probably enjoyed this one more when I was younger but I still really loved it. I didn't intend to read this so close after I read book 1 but oh well, the series re-read is well and truly underway!

This was such a cosy mystery! I loved the setting and the connection to the ‘original’ Holmes and Watson!

This was a lot of fun and I'm enjoying the "new" Watson and Holmes characters. I can't wait to pick up book 2.

I've said this before but this series is completely addictive! Also, I think just love books set in holiday locations???

These books shouldn't be this addictive but they are! I've read three in three days and now as much as I want to continue I think I need to take a break.

Of course, I really enjoyed this because I love Alex as a character but I admit that I prefer how the show handles these storylines, the villains are a lot less cartoonish and the characters and plots are more detailed and 3 dimensional.

This is a solid book! It's a big step up from the last one and you can see how much the world of Alex Rider has matured just in this one book and I am honestly so excited to read the next one! It's going to be so much fun to see where the story goes next! (yes, I have read this whole series before, but I've forgotten most of what happens in the second half)

These books are seriously easy to read, they are honestly the best thing to listen to when you feel sick and just want to be a marshmallow and colour in. I cannot wait to finally finish my re-read of this series and get to the new book!

This one feels a bit too chaotic at times but still has all the classic Wayward Children homeyness I love.

“Ah, surety," said Jack. "Have you noticed that the doors come for us when we're young enough to believe we know everything and toss us out again as soon as we're old enough to have doubts? I can't decide whether it's an infinite kindness or an incredible cruelty.”
I clearly didn't appreciate this book as much as I should have the first two times I read it, because as it turns out, this is an absolutely brilliant book!

I didn't love this one when it came out, but I think now that I understand it and know what I'm going into before I start reading, I can really enjoy it. I thought the story was really interesting and I LOVED the dark water world so so much! I really hope Seanan McGuire has plans for a dark water story in the future!

Not my favourite book in the series but I'll definitely re-read it again next year in anticipation of book 6. This book felt more reminiscent of book 1 to me, and less fantastical at the beginning but it definitely confirmed my love of any kind of water (especially dark water) in books! I need to read about a dark water world in this series! Seriously, this may not be my favourite book in the series, but I could read these books forever!
