We love a graphic novel with page numbers. We also love any kind of story that heavily features friendship!! Me, an Australian once again not understanding the American obsession with everything "Fall" and Halloween. I wanted to give this a go because I like the art style but I'm definitely not the target audience for this. High-key really disappointed this became a romance in the last couple of pages.

This has probably been my favourite of O'Neills works so far. I loved the message about taking care of your environment and being mindful not only of the land you live on but of the other habitats around you too. Along with the environmental storyline, this was also a great depiction of grief and how difficult it can be after losing a parent or close family member. All in all, a really good story with fantastic artwork and some great info about coral reefs in the back!

TW: grief, loss of a loved one (past)

"How does a hero decide who's worth saving?"

A quick and entertaining twist on Rapunzel with some great quotes and lessons but not something I'll ever pick up again. I do think O'Neill's works would be great to have in a classroom for younger readers though! I also loved having a plus-size main character in a middle-grade story, this is something we don't see often enough (or ever)!

TW: Anxiety, Imprisonment, Fatphobia

A quick, 20 min Scooby-Doo plot, cute mc and a big focus on friendship and stepping into ur friend's shoes and getting out of your own head, which I really appreciated! I didn't love this mystery because it felt so small but I'm hoping the next vols will have higher stakes, even tho Goldie is only an amateur detective. I think this would be a great read for anyone wanting to get into mysteries or for someone who wants low-key Sherlock Holmes vibes.

There is not one single thing about this comic that I don't absolutely love. I love the art style, the colouring and the writing so so much!! This comic never fails to entertain me and I always end up with a stupid grin on my face after reading it! Honestly, the way the panels are structured and the way this story is told, using the images and minimal dialogue is AMAZING. I am constantly flawed by how good a storyteller Scottie Young is and I already can't wait to reread this again soon!

This series is psychotic, I love it.

I loved this! Skottie Young has recently become one of my favourite comic people so I had a hunch that I would love this. Though this is ridiculously violent I was smiling the whole time. I will definitely be picking up volume 2 soon because this was absolutely fantastic!

Very cute and reminiscent of Pokemon which was a lot of fun! This was one of those things where I knew it probably wouldn't be a 5 star read for me but I still wanted to read it so I could enjoy the experience, and that's pretty much what happened. This is a solid read for any age group, a cute story and fantastic artwork! I didn't love it enough to want to buy it, but I will continue on with the series.

Really good writing and characterisation, and fantastic artwork that really matches the tone and changes with the story! One of the best comics I've ever read and one of the best Batman stories I've ever seen.

I don't know if it's because I haven't read a book in a month but wow that was fun! Everything about this book was simultaneously super fun and super dramatic while also being completely stressful! I feel like I just finished reading Keeping Up With The Washingtons and I kind of didn't want it to stop! I'm definitely glad this is a duology and not a trilogy though because I don't know if I can deal with this level of drama and miscommunication for much longer!

"Without your history you are nothing."

This book has an incredible premise and by all rights, I should have loved it but I just never clicked with the writing. That being said, I love the whole "historian who holds all the memories belonging to one group of people" trope so I did find that aspect of the story really interesting but yeah, I just think the writing + me not really loving books about mermaids/sirens or sea creatures probably meant I was never going to love this.

The first book of 2020 done and dusted! Seriously though, this book was amazing and such an unexpected gem. I'm honestly so surprised that this wasn't one of the biggest books of 2019. It's beautifully written, a novella, there are enemies to lovers space lesbians, there's a time war... what more do you want? It was such a beautiful read and I need everyone to stop what they're doing and go read this book, it's such a refreshing tale!
