A really interesting book about the world behind social media and why you should quit. I thought this was really easy to read an informative but I think I would personally benefit from this topic being written about by someone who has never experienced a world without social media, instead of the author constantly lamenting about the "good old days" because my dude I wasn't even born then.

A *very* confusing beginning with a romance that came literally out of nowhere in the last few chapters BUT I enjoyed the other 75-80% of this and I am already getting ready to continue the series!

This was so stressful and so good and I have officially found a new favourite read! I loved the writing and the characterisations, I already can't wait to re-read this sooner rather than later! (Also, positive therapy rep?? A+++ 👌👌👌)

I wish I'd loved this more than I did, but it just didn't click with me! I enjoyed the second half over the first because ANGST but, it still wasn't the book for me :(

This book was a bit too ridiculous for even me, and it was definitely darker than I was expecting, but it wasn't bad by any means.

TW: death, war, PTSD, rape, suicide, mentions of a stillborn child, physical abuse (in a dream), attempted kidnapping

Rape scenes (flashbacks, nightmares): 10%, 29% (It's also mentioned throughout the book multiple other times, not as big scenes.)

Oh, to be back in the romantic world of Julia Quinn! I wasn't quite sure anything could live up to the Birdgerton series but I think the Splendid trilogy has a fighting chance! I really enjoyed the characters though Emma did read a little young, which of course, she was so that's not exactly a character fault. I enjoyed the chemistry between Emma and Alex and I loved the side characters (I can't wait for book 2!). I think my favourite thing about the book though, was the last 10% after they were married because we got to focus on how little a wife has to do and how much less she's allowed to do, it was very refreshing to read about and I appreciated the realism.

I'm a sucker for the spy trope so this was an absolute joy for me. I loved the chemistry and banter between the two main characters and I loved seeing characters from the previous books too! This was a great way to end the series!

Super interesting move to publish these novellas as prequels and not include this info in the main series... Oh, well I had a super interesting day learning all about Celeana and Sam!

“If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it—to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger."

I really think it says a lot when you can be listening to a book on 3.30x speed and still the book isn't ending fast enough. I feel like I never grew to love or even like Celeana in any of these stories and rather than reading her as a confident and badass assassin, she came across as impatient, arrogant and attention-seeking. She almost died so many times throughout this book and was only saved at the very last minute, by someone who "just happened to be in the right place at the right time", but everyone has to start somewhere I guess... I'm going to continue this series as I'm buddy reading it with a group of friends but I really think that 1) if I wasn't actively and purposefully doing other things while listening to this and 2) if I wasn't participating in a series-long buddy read I would've DNF'd this a few pages in.

01 The Assassin and The Pirate Lord ↠ Read 11/01/2021 ↞ ⭐⭐
I genuinely don't know if this has anything to do with the series as a whole or if it just served more as a "Here's Celeana" introduction kind of thing. I will say though, I think it was mean to show her as a badass but I read Celeana more as a kid who gets mad when she doesn't get her way and who doesn't think/plan very far ahead & can't see the bigger picture.

02 The Assassin and The Healer ↠ Read 11/01/2021 ↞ ⭐⭐
b o r i n g. I think this was mostly just a filler story.

03 The Assassin and The Desert ↠ Read 25/01/2021 ↞ ⭐⭐⭐
The best story so far but I think that's because the other characters are more interesting in this one.

04 The Assassin and The Underworld ↠ Read 25/01/2021 ↞⭐⭐.5
Finally an interesting story. I really wish it wasn't all so boring though, I think I just don't love Celeana.

05 The Assassin and The Empire ↠ Read 25/01/2021 ↞⭐⭐.75
I enjoyed this one the most plot-wise because I feel like the most happened but I think by this point, I was just over the book, as a whole.

Cheesy in just about every way but I really liked the main characters and got a real kick out of seeing the characters from the previous books all working together. I think if my library ever gets the other novellas on audiobook, I'll have to give them a go too.

Not as good as the first two but a vast improvement over book 3! I really liked the characters and it involved one of my favourite tropes so I was having a great time!
